This is all interesting stuff. Gotta ask though RLI, was there anything wrong with the old radiator or was replacement a matter of "just in case"?

makes me want to redo my airfilter box. Not happy with the amount of components and holes.
Its comming along very nicely!

G'day Joe,

The main reason i have upgraded my radiator is due to towing my camper trailer up to Cape York this year. The Patrol's have been know for there over-heating problems over the years. One of the main causes is due to build up of road grime and dust over the years between the cores and fins.

PS, i will post up photo's of all the crap that came out externally between the cores and fins soon.

G’day Trendsetters!

After researching and finally purchasing and then fitting my new triple core radiator. I finally got around to cleaning the old radiator. I remember being advised that one of the main problems with the GU Patrols was that the air-con condensers help restrict the airflow when dust and mud enter via the front grill.

Five of the specialists that I contacted during my research phase, advised me that they regularly take out GU Patrol radiators to externally clean them out. They advised that the amount of dust and crap that come out of these radiators is quite amazing. David the mechanic/sales manager from National Auto Parts advised me that Patrol owners should get there radiators cleaned externally at least every two years, especially if you travel a lot along dirt/gravel roads!

I could not get over the amount of crap that came out of my original factory radiator. I will now taking that advice on board and I will be taking out and cleaning my radiator every two years. This is one item that we all fail to properly service, we service our drive lines regularly bur forget to service our radiators. As David advised, it only costs $90.00 every two years to keep the air-flow running correctly through your radiator maintaining a healthy cooling temps.

Excellent advice there Paul! I'll definitely give my radiator a good clean out when I get the hoses and thermostat changed out. Might even slap a new radiator in as you've done - the engine side is looking pretty worse for wear and I have a few ideas to implement to stop the fan getting sucked into it during them deep crossings, so the radiator is probably gonna have to come out anyway.

Where'd you get your radiator from?

G'day mate,

All you need is a Patrol Z30 air-box.

I had a 2.75 inch Beaudesert exhaust system on my old D40 and it ran fine, i do not know if Scott's rods build a 2.75 inch system, you will have to inquire. Either way, a 2.75 or 3 inch will work far better than the factory set-up.

PS, make sure you get rid of the factory dump pipe from the turbo!

G'day Trendsetters!

I was disappointed with the muffler section of my 3 inch exhaust system! I contacted Scott's Rods in Queensland and ask if they made a straight through middle section with-out the muffler and they said yes!!!!!! They further informed me, that i should have told them, that i did not want a muffler section to my kit and they would have provided a cheaper kit with out the muffler!, my fault! However, the new straight through section cost only $200.00 delivered, total cost of the exhaust system $790.00 delivered!

With a 3 inch straight through exhaust system, i have picked up 1 psi in boost pressure. I have gone from 14 psi to 15 psi with just the exhaust system! The Patrol Has also lost 15 degrees in EGT's. I have gone from 225 to 210 in exhaust temps! (post turbo temps)

PS,I will keep you all posted on my fuel economy result's over the next couple of weeks!

Regards,

RLI

I love the sound of my 2.3/4 straight through system
But fuel economy is up slightly compared to when muffler is fitted

G'day lounge Lizards!

My classic fark-up October 2000! I took my darling wife on a fishing and 4x4 trip to Morton island in Qld. In the week leading up to the trip, i installed over $10,000 worth of accessories to our GQ 4.2 petrol TI wagon. ie color coded bull-bar, side rails, warn winch, TJM suspension kit, front locker, radio etc etc.

However, i ran out of time and forgot to install the most important accessory that should have been fitted first! See the following two photo's

After the embarrassing hydraulicing of the motor and the total write-off of the vehicle, i bought the car back from Fowler's auction in Brisbane. This time i built a fully balanced 4.2 EFI motor, port and polished head, extractors i had no problem pulling my 23 foot Alison Wahoo center console boat!

IMG_1667.jpg

What happened, my wife walked out in front of me at Dog creek, i got distracted watching a bloke reeling in a Jew-fish to my right, my wife walk's into a deep hole frantically waving her arms, i suddenly realised the water was up to my wife's neck. I farken floored the poor old beastie, water over the roof, (at one stage, i thought i was in a submarine!)

Then the farken car shat itself, all the vehicles electrics are suddenly dead, the tide is pushing the vehicle down the creek, my wife starts to farken scream, every Tom, Dick and Harry appear from everywhere thinking someone's being murdered!

Then they see this dick-head (me!) floating down dog creek! After floating 20 metres the Patrol suddenly filled with water, i had to wait until the vehicle equalised with water pressure before i could open the farken drivers door.

PS, then the embarrassment continued! i got rescued by a farken Landcruiser. lol

G'day Trendsetter's,

I finally got around to fitting my Turbosmart Boost controller to the turbo. It was the best $90.00 i have spent to help gain further power and torque to the new Mitsubishi TD05 16G turbo set-up. Instillation is quite simple. All we are doing is fitting the Turbosmart Boost controller between the turbo and the waste gate actuator; Note photo below of black hose going from the turbo inlet housing to the purple actuator.

IMG_1681_zps5326cba2.jpg

Now fit the stainless bracket to the Boost controller with the 2 small allen key bolts supplied.

IMG_1682_zpsa5fd3b39.jpg

I then fitted the boost controller on top of the passenger side shock-tower. I then ran one a braided hose from the turbo inlet housing to the + nipple on the boost controller.

More to follow over!

RLI

Now fit the hose from the boost controller to the actuator. There are two nipple outlets on the boost controller. The one that goes to the Actuator has a much larger diameter outlet, has an arrow pointing to the actuator and also has the negative symbol where the boost setting is marked.

IMG_1685_zpsf17bdc11.jpg

Make sure all your clamps are tight. Now gently wind the boost controller star adjuster, counter clock-wise all the way in.

More to follow over!

Start your vehicle and take for a quick spin, you will instantly notice that your turbo will boost a lot faster to 15 psi. Safely pull over and pop your bonnet and adjust the boost controller clockwise 360 degrees (1 x full revolution) Now travel to where you can safely and legally drive to 110ks for over a distance 2 kilometers. Under-load floor it. You will suddenly notice how quick she pulls away and reaches 18psi. At 110ks by the GPS and cruising, Boost was at 10psi, EGT's were around 238 to 243 and Oil pressure was at 70psi at 2500 revs in 4th gear. See photo

IMG_1691_zps5678a6f2.jpg

I then pulled over and adjusted the boost controller clockwise another 180 degrees ( half-turn) In total, I had adjusted the boost controller one and a half turns. On my third run i hit 20psi at 100ks by my GPS.

IMG_1686_zps6bc68123.jpg

At 120ks by the GPS and cruising, Boost was at 12psi, EGT's rose to 295, water temp was at 160 and Oil pressure was at 60psi at 2500 revs in 4th gear.

G'day Trendsetter's,

Finally, i have got the bigggggg Cross-Country Intercooler installed, all i have to do is cut the bonnet tomorrow to install the bigggg Ultimate scoop.

PS, I have taken the usual photo's to help you install your's.
