Imagine this: You walk into a Nissan Stealership to purchase some OEM filters, you know, because you like to treat the ol' girl good sometimes.

You walk up to the tall bloke with the bad tooth behind the counter and with your best bravado ask him, "I'll have 2 fuel filters, 2 oil filters and 2 sump plug washers to suit a d22 navara with the zd30 engine, thanks mate."

Nonchalantly you stand by as he rings up the quote.

"That'll be $208 thanks," he quips back.

"that's bullshit," you tell him condescendingly.

At which point you walk out without so much as a well-deserved bird-flip or a hearty "f*#k you!"

Yeah, this is based on actual events that happened at an actual Nissan dealership in the actual township of happy-rock.

Seriously, I've ordered all that plus 2 air filters from a Nissan dealership and still paid less than that quote.

So down to supercheap I go, and for the low, low price of $254 I managed to purchase:
2 fuel filters, 2 oil filters, 2 80series air filters, a tube of RTV red silicone, some gearbox additive, 2 tins of brake cleaner, 3 bottles of Nulon oil flush and some window wiper additive. (sorry guys, no partridge in a pear tree)

That's the first and last time I'll ever set foot in that Nissan dealership!

yer i can see that, standard acceptance in most dealerships. I charged a owner $700 to drive from brisbane northside to yatala ~150km round trip to swap 2 wires around on a light bulb. Dealerships have to make money just like every other shop does.

Its not totaly a markup issue....those items form supercrap are non genuine dont forget...

Nizzbit's prices seem reasonable.

Who knows if OEM filters are better or worse, but I'm willing to pay twice as much for the sake of it. Might as well give the engine every chance to live as long as possible, especially if you plan on hanging onto it for a while.

yes they are there too make money, but joshmans right it's a load of shit the prices Nissan charge, they're kidding their self.
Other then my love for Nav's I love my Holdens and I have found there prices on parts to be more then competative with after market items.
And if they honestly believe that a Nissan filter is any better then a Ryco filter they've got there hand on it.

Your better of buying a good non genuine filter like baldwin or the like of that. They wanted to charge me $600 to change the front transfer drive shaft seal. I went to a local mechanic who did it for $100

There is very minor markup on what dealerships actually pay Nissan for these parts. No where near even 40% let alone 250%

I work at Nissan and I still purchase aftermarket filters. Western filters $45.00 oil, air, fuel filters

so do you reckon $120 for a '07 rodeo air filter is good value....now who's got thier hand on it

Well I wouldn't know about any crapy rodeo, when it comes too 4wds I drive Nissan's, but I've had 5 SS's and 1 CV8 since I got my P's in '96 and genuine filter for them are cheaper then after market.
As for filters made I germany, we get told the same crap at work from Cat, but if we can get a Donaldson filter to suit it, no more Cat filters.

I've had mine serviced by our local Nissan dealership and in came back with a cooper fuel filter, like seriously if Nissan don't use their own ...

I think they're still holding on to the good 'ol days where you had to go to them for parts and they charged accordingly.

Imagine if you dare, Nissan price some of their gear a little more reasonably, maybe some of us would buy more stuff from them (and they make more). :sarcastic:

I found when I was in South Africa the parts were significantly cheaper there than here.

Hey mate.
One thing if you want genuine might be to ring DC Motors in rocky here. Get a price from them and then I'm normally driving around enough that i could drop them to you in gladstone. That is if they are cheaper of course.

yeha mate, i'll be heading up to rocky sometime soon anyway to visit a friend and do some shopping, gladstone is pretty limited in what's available.

thanks for the offer though, i may yet need to take you up on it.

oh yeah, we totally need to organise a CQ meet.

ryco is a wellknown and reputed brand they will also warrent your engine IF IT CAN BE PROVEN THAT THERE FILTER WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE
