Hi guys I have a few questions and I was hoping some you wouldn't mind helping me.
I had bought and lift kit wichs consist on a 2 " lift spacer up front and a 1.5" lift with a block on the rear, and my problem is that now the suspension sound horrible when I go fast over a bug bump and I realized that the shocks are extending way too much... :banghead:
Well the thing is that after looking up a a sensible way to fix this without spending too much money is that I could buy a set of bilstein 5100 shocks the ones in the front are height Adjustable which would help me to get rid of the spacers and also to replace the stock shocks in the back with ones that are have longer travel and keep the block .

The thing is that I don't what to screw up 2 times in a row and I want to get some opinions on what u guys would do to lift your truck just 2" any suggestion would be appreciated

I dont think a spacer will affect your shocks more then likely your upper control arm is hitting on bump stop.
your best bet would be to go the bilesteins

Our car was raised 45mm in the front and 85mm in the rear by ARB. Old Man Emu Dakar springs (the rear leaves are dual-rate). We had OME Nitrocharger Sports shocks fitted all around because of their very high heat dissipation rate.

We've towed our van along dirt roads at 90km/h. Smooth as silk. Here's a shot through my rear view mirror on that road at that speed - there's no juddering, the camera stayed steady for the shot. It's just a shame that it focussed on the towing mirror mount and not the dust cloud behind - but in doing so, it proves a point rather nicely.

Bilstiens. I nearly went the 5100 serries myself. They seem like a great solution. I was informed by two well know suspension places they are on the soft side. Although the spring you use with them will have a great effect. Having said that you can find some very good reports with 5100's.
If you don't want to spend to much they could be a good option as you can Import them from the US at a very resonable price. Keeping our strong Aussie dollar in mind.
Anyway I ended up going with the Bilstien BE5's (the yellow ones) with King Springs front and EFS springs rear and I have to say they are brilliant. It has totaly transformed the truck. It's really is like driving another vehicle. Although going down this road is not a cheap way out. Driving over normal urban roads I can feel the small cracks and bumps just a little more over the stock susspension but hit a washout or big pot hole and difference is unbleivable. It stays totaly composed.
I can't give a comparo with 5100's and BE5's but I have driven a dual cab D40 with Ironman kit and although better than stock it's not a patch on the Bilstiens.

Agreed, I was told the same thing and went with Bilstein BE5-D626 Front struts with extra groove cut & Dobinson coils with Bluemax H/D leaves & Bilstein 24-144384-1 rear shocks and its great

Thanks guys for all the suggestions but does anyone know how the ride is with the bilstein set at 2" of lift??
Also I have read that a good combo would be the bilstein's and OME springs but I don't what to spend more than 600 bucks :D

Hi guys, great little thread developing, I'm looking at the same shocks. Summit racing in the states can send all 4 x 5100 struts/shocks to Aus for $495, so I'm very tempted to do so. It gets a bit confusing with the B6 range though. There are a few different ones yet there doesn't seem to be a difference between them, can anyone shed some light here or for the sake of saving $100 is it better to just go with the 5100? Mine only runs a genuine alloy bar, no plans for a winch and only really does beach and very light offroad work so i want the height for bigger tyres but ride quality above all else.
Any recommendations for springs would be appreciated too. I'm leaning towards Dobinson coils and EFS leaves???
They also sell the Rancho shocks which I know are an old favourite, has anyone run either the RS5000 or RS9000 on a D40?
Cheers
Brett!
