My navara stopped running. Used to struggle with cold start. Head gasket and rings were redone thinking that is the problem because they were finished. Now I still have the same problem after doing the motor over.

Big problem is the motor turns over slow even with help after a bit and a brand new starter. The starter gets extremely hot and the jumper cables get extremely hot. There is about a 5 to 7 volt drop at battery when cranking.

Sounds like it wants to start then it starts cranking slow like not enough power as I say even with a running diesel vehicle jumping me.

Im at a loss.

maybe eliminate some variables to begin with. For example (not sure if possible with diesel engine) use a 3/4" torque wrench to turn the engine by hand using bottom pulley and measure the force, compare this to a similar sized diesel vehicle of a friend. If the values are the same then al least you know internally the engine is ok, and the extra resistance or starting problems are external e.g. starter, battery, ring gear mis-alignment or damaged ring gear.
