Hi, sorry not mechanically sound and just getting in to 4x4ing so need someone to translate this for me if possible...

I am looking to get the same wheel setup as this guy, I have a pending 2inch lift in the next few weeks; other then that my d22 is a stock 2013 model.

What rims and tyres would one use to achieve such a thing?

To push those what look like 285/75/16 on 0 offset steelies so 33" equivalent you would need more then jus 2"sus lift. Someone please correct me if im wrong.

These 2 things just to clear wheels

Chip
Exhaust
These 2 things just to turn them

Other little things are extended flares to cover wheels, cut/trim mudflap for rubbing issue, a healthy bank account for the servo
 
I have 33's on standard STX wheels (+20 offset) on my D40 with 3" of lift and they clear fine all around. So a D22 with just 2" or 3" of lift will fit them sweet, as they sit shitloads higher from factory anyway.

I dont run a chip either, just a 2.5" turbo back exhaust, EGR blank, hotside pipe upgraded. Pushes the 33's fine. Not much of a difference in terms of power loss either. Fuel economy suffers a bee's doodle, but im still getting around 650 to a tank on Caltex premium diesel.

I ll tell you whats going on there Vraji, that young fella has taken the best car on the road (3.0 litre d22) in the best colour available (all black, is there any other colour for a car) and gone to some effort to change or colour code roll bar and add a completely useless hard cover,and has gotten rid of the bungee thingmes from the tonnue cover. How he rolls his swag out in the back of that I dont know!!

The lift will be 2inch body and 2 and maybe a touch more suspension lift to fit those horny as fruck rims and tyres, which I am guessing are 285s on a 15 inch rim and most likely with a zero or negative offset. Looks sensational.....Buuut dont take my word for it, use this forum to learn all about it.

While learning about body lifts pay no heed to the nay sayers who get all wussy about body lifting air bag vehicles
While your at it learn all about calmini upper control arms and heavy duty tie rod ends.

And Vraji, say no to hard covers.

I have 75mm suspension and 30mm body lift, also removed mud flaps and cut the inner guard on the front. I get no rubbing under any conditions.
Generally 50mm suspension and 50mm body is enough from what I have read to fit 285/33's.
You can also get 15" wheels to fit if you get the offset right.
 
15s will fit on a D22 if the offset is sufficient. It is a fair bit at least zero and quite possibly into the negative, to minimise the dish on the inside, thus clearing drum etc. If you go to an 8 inch rim to fit 33s you end up with the tyres coming out a lot. Somewhere around 60mm each side. I looked into it and am still umming and aahing about it, but dont really want to draw that much he po po attention.
It looks quite possible this is what is in Vrajis pic. Looks like D22 porn to me.
Perhaps someone who has actually done it could chime in with what the offset had to be.
 
Interesting. Im guessing just on D22's though and not D40's?

Sorry mate I wouldnt know with the D40s, If it could be done though surely someone on here would have done it.

Its a shame 15s dont fit a bit easier, a few advantages to the 15 including cheaper tyre (like about $100 i think per tyre, at least thats what I was told), as well as more sidewall to bag out for the sand.
 
Hey all thanks for the replies.

Just had a 3 day 4x4 park camping adventure with the missus and loved taking the d22 out on the tracks.

will be reading more in depth tomorrow but just wanted to post to say that yes I wouldnt put a hardlid on mine. I spent 520$ getting and installing both an overlip tubliner (used rubber and dampening fabric on the edges/base to stop scratching) and a canvas top.

Will attach pics tomorrow.
 
I have an 08 D22 witha 2" lift, 265/75/16 and a cloe to 0 offset and i had to scrub the guards out to have them fit, for 33`s with a close to 0 offset wouild at least need a 2" body lift as well. This looks good, the rims do possibly look like 15`s but cant be sure. i will say it looks like it would rub on flex but its a bad angle to tell.
 
Hey guys, I've been looking into 15" rims lately and have found 15x8 is the only size to get but MUST be -22 to clear the calipers.... This being said have heard that with a -22 you get a bit of vibration on the highway...?

The rims in the first pic do look like a 16" based on the sidewall...
