Horseshoe Resevoir and Dam are below Humbolt Mountain to the east.
These pics were taken during a low rainfall period. It has since filled to overflow and gone back down in recent years.

Just a few places I've been lately

A popular area East of Phoenix is the Apache Trail, partially paved then its maintained dirt road until you reach Roosevelt Dam.

At the beginning of the trail, or the Apache Junction end of it, this is a site you will see among some other old timey touristy stuff. The Elvis Church.

This is actually a panorama, several images stitched together, a bit of distortion resulted making the face of the Superstition Mountain look much smaller then it really is.

Transformer on the Apache Trail

While shooting this an employee of SRP(I think) came along to access the lake and do a little recreational fishing.
He explained that they had installed a new transformer at one of the dams, this one was going to be stored as a back up, as they don't make 'em like that any more.
This model was built in 1971, I was 5 years old then.

Every summer here in Arizona there is a humid period we call "monsoon season" but its mostly a lot of clouds and light. When rains do hit its usually short but volumous. The skies during this period are other worldly.

That image was taken along the Apache Trail during one of those humid days, as was this one, same scene but just to the right.
