G'day Everyone!

Just a quick question, What are the main differences between a ST and a ST-X D40?

I have checked on Nissan and from what I can work out it might be the front seats are differnt and the rear alloy bars are no longer included?

What else am I missing? Both have blue tooth, both have 6 stacker, both have leather steering wheels and the same dash inserts?

So where is the extra 9k in value?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

There are a few little differences like you point out, but the main difference from where I see it are that the ST-Xs are built in Spain and the ST's are built in thailand, I don't know of any build quality differences, but a lot of aftermarket parts are different for the new ST's yet. Should be no problem in a few years but might be an issue in the short term.

The ST's do have an in-cabin fuel door release, which I was amazed the ST-X didnt.

Hi Marto
I have an ST - so far the difference is...

st has color coded door mirrors (-x are chrome)
ST has a basic rear seat - only folds down (-x has a totally different rear seat setup)
ST has no child restrain anchorage points.
Approach and departure angles are a few degrees different as is the ground clearance.
Bullbars etc from an st-x will not fit onto an st - different mounts.
ST only has two uni tracks in the tub - st-x has five.
Mounts for bash plates are different.

hope that helps - there are other minor things i am sure.

The rear seat in the ST-X is brilliant, it can fold up against the rear of the cabin to store lots of gear in there.

yep the ST has a fixed "lump" the rear seat sits on.
I am going - one day - to investigate if i can fit a spare/dual battery in there. It does not look deep enough for a standard battery, may get an AGM battery in there on it's side.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah I have a 08 ST-X at the moment but was considering upgrading and getting a auto....only prob is the ST-X which I paid $43k drive away brand new in September 08 is now worth over 50k!!! wtf!? Anyways...I think a ST might be a option if this is the case!

Maybe when they release the new model they will have a run out sale of the old shape and you could pick one up cheaper.
I would wait and see what happens.

There is a PDF on the Nissan Website with gives you this information if you can't get to a dealer to pic up the brochure.

He might but since he's not here I thought you might want the answer quicker than any possible wait and thought you might benefit from looking it up yourself.

Just to add to this the new st-x is 140 KW the auto is a tiptrontic type and seams to work very well. Also no DPF my mates new one is getting good ecconomy.

Safety features!

ST-X 3 Lap Sash belts in the rear vs. 2 in the ST
ST-X has Driver and front passenger side–impact SRS airbags and Front to rear SRS curtain airbags, while the ST doesn't.

Front variable intermittent and speed sensing windscreen wipers
17" alloy wheels
Power door mirrors

and the things mentioned above.

The ST-X is based on the spanish built pathfinder, while the ST and RX are navara only built in Thailand. So the stereo and a few other bits and bobs are different, even though spec sheets show them as the same.

Besides the features all ready listed, pretty much every other component is different. Here is list of what I have found so far.
Air filter assembly/snorkle, turbo manifolds, front brakes, wheels, front bumper, front guards, doors, rear diff, cross members, heater, AC system, dash cluster/wiring loom, fuel filter, upper control arms.

I'm sure there are a heap more, some are only subtle, others are major. It's going to be a nightmare tracking down spares for these in the future.

You might find that the suspension components from the US and the UK will not fit the trucks built in Thailand

Thats not a biggy ... IRONMAN supplies satisfactory stuff for suspension - certainly no complaints yet from the installation in my RX NAV (thai)

How does the Thai built trucks go with Camber?
The STX was a 50/50 in the Gen I and some Gen II but I dont know after that if you got camber adjustment or not. I have seen a few trucks rolling round with lift and positive camber.

Its not an issue any more as the D40 doesnt run a 4x2 any more but alot of the suspension here is too stiff on a 4x2 as the truck is a few hundred kilos lighter. thats one of the reasons I went with the Radflo's in the first place.

I have a 2009 STX (15 mths old) with $15k of goodies on it for sale . It has only done 13000 kms. Have a look on Carsales if you are interested. Its the Grey one at $45900.
