I have added a personal touch to the sliders. The Minister Of War and Finiance was worried about slipping of the top of the slider. so a trip to bunnings got me some Non-Slip V Rated Tape to stick on it. it is well worth it if you wanting a grippy surface to step on either while jsut generally getting in and out or loading the racks etc.

$10 from Bunnings a light rub to rough up the top and a quick rub down with some wax and grease remover and then cut it to size stuck it on and done

Thanks mate.

I have come to a stop on the fan. I will have a final decision hopefully by this afternoon. Reason being is the original fan I was gonna purchase at a dam steal of a price " its not what you know its who you know", it was a Davies Craig fan angst it had a breather on it which meant it wasn't a sealed motor. So found the SPAL fans at a cheap price but they were in the states and the price doubled when I added freight. So trying to find an Australian stocks of the SPAL units. Gonna try Repco and Supercheap today before dropping into work

So I've settled on the Davies Craig fan and also need to source some 2" silicone bends etc to replace the ones after I lift the cooler. Also things have been super good lately so I've been to and and purchased some tie down rail for the tub to secure everything on the cape trip etc. Installs to come just need some spare time

small update. i will be recieveing my 8" thermo tomoz and will hopefully tackle the fan next weekend or during the week. i will be getting my cousin to extend the intercooler brackets so im not packing it with washers etc.

i was over looking for camp lights to hang on the tent awning to see what we are cooking etc. im trying to purely use gas for cooking only on our cape trip. so i came up with this idea.

5m Roll 600 Led strip - $20 Ebay from Hong Kong
Alloy Flat Bar - Free(estimate $1.75)(wife works in alloy company)
Cigarette Lighter Plugs with 3m extension cord - $9.50 each Supercheap
and assorted electrical wiring gear.

this is what i came up with

these were 2 x 1m lengths of strip on 1.1m of alloy bar heatshrinked etc and would easily zip tie or hook onto an awning or etc to provide light.

very keen to see the fan install
i also use similar strip lights when camping, there great

more updates on the build. i recieved my fan and had a spare hour or so this arvo to do a mock up with the fan attached to the intercooler and WOW it fits. i didnt get the chance to take pictures of the intercooler chocked in place on top of the motor but i haver atleast 10-15mm clearance above the top of the motor.

this is what the fan looks like mounted to intercooler

Tie-down rails

Nice lookin' rig Rusty and the quality of your workmanship is outstanding. Can I ask where you bought your tie-down rails? I have a heap of the removable rings but no rail. Thanks.

Thanks mate
I got the rails from ARB. They had a kit system you could buy for $120 so I git it. Was well worth the money and I can just add the tie down rings any spot a need. Hoping to have the fan in by next weekend. June is a busy month for me and I'm hoping to squeeze the time in for this job.

Great thread Rusty enjoyed the trip :) Great work, fitted out nicely and your car will be great for the cape trip (I did it in a 3.3 L Patrol about 28 years ago). Be nice to see some pics of your trip when you return.

Thanks mate. There will be a stack of pictures when I get back from Cape York. Only 6weeks to go Woohoo. Once this fan goes in and it works its time to kick back and relax. It's the last major item on the list before the trip. After the trip the custom rear bar starts working into place and saving for a house lol.

Intercooler fan

Hey Rusty, I had a 3 litre Patrol prior to my D40 ad I fitted a thermo fan on top of the intercooler. A lot of Patrol owners do this but some wire the fan through a temp switch mouned to the intercooler. I had mine hard wired to come on whenever the engine was running. I know that it worked well when I was doing low range work as I ran temperature thermisters in the inlet manifold and before the intercooler but there did not appear to be any gain at the higher cruising speeds. I think the Patrols bonnet was also a factor in there somewhere. How will you be wiring yours up? Do you have any evidence of it 'assisting' or are you going to fit it and see what happens?

The fan is purely for slow driving. So offroading, shit Brisbane traffic etc. It will be switched off on the highway

So not a real interesting update. The bodylift finally got approved and I found my silicone hoses for the intercooler lift for cheap.2 x 4" straight 2" hose and 1x 90deg with 4" leg each side all for $30 woot. Hoping to have the intercooler lifted by Sunday arvo.

alright so things are finally getting sorted. my cousin who is a boilermaker is knocking up so spacers for the intercooler brackets so i dont have to midify them. i should have them by Monday Arvo and wll hopefully have the fan on and intercooler lifted later that night or even sometime during the week. then i will throw some pics up and do the wiring to run the fan. then i think that is the last mod to do under the engine bay until i feel like playing around and doing the 80 series box conversion in a 2.5L.

i will get pictures up as soon as i have some progress to the intercooler.

also i will keep noting that the only reason i can stick the fan under the cooler is because of the bodylift. you must have a 30-50mm bodylift to be able to achieve this modification. i will also list all the items i have and where i got them from or where you can get them from. as i got a bargain price on the fan from a family member.

cheers
Rusty

Ok finally I have some progress. Fan is on and intercooler is in and lifted. Wiring to fan is not done yet but it won't take long cause the wiring grommets and everything are already in waiting. Once I get some pics ill post them up.
