Finally pulled everything apart. I'm up for a new (not sure of proper technical terms yet)...
CV
Free wheeling hub
Stub axle
Bearing nut
Hub lock assembly

Anyone got any of these laying around?? Maybe I can order a complete assembly which might work out cheaper? Il look into it when shops open on Monday.

The CV snapped inside the stub axle, causing that to split and expand. Making it a real PITA to remove the bearing nut. When the CV snapped, it expanded inside the stub axle and smashed out the free wheeling hub and destroyed the hub lock mechanism. I was in 1st gear Low range, without too many herbs. The front wheels lifted and when they landed you can hear the crack in the vid.

Does anyone know if a "pick a part" styled wreckers in Perth area? Like on the east coast where you go into the massive yard, find your model of veh and rip off the bits you need then pay next to nothing at the counter on your way out. Or are they all rip of merchants like nissan?

Oh sweet. Il defo hit em up. Too bad the shops you really need on the weekends are shut (on Sundays anyway).

My experience has been you won't find a cheap wrecker in Perth.
They only want an arm or a leg, but you do get free attitude.
Nissan are rip off crunts as well but you may as well try em, never know you might be surprised, also try nizzbits for genuine parts that are a bit cheaper than Nissan.

Yeh cheers. The 4wd dismantlers in kewdale wanted $125 for the free wheeling hub, compared to Nissan who wants $460!! Terrain Tamer only wants $138 for brand new which is pretty good. I haven't tried anywhere else for the other part prices as I've only just completed the busted list. But yeh, very much a mega rip over here. Loved pick a part in Vic

Went to Perth 4wd centre in Welshpool. Got all my bits for a pretty good price.

Stub axle with bearing nut and lock washer $180
Free wheeling hub with drive clutch $110
CV $110. He wanted $220, but we agreed on the lower price.

So $400 total.

Expensive 4wd trip, but it could be worse if I paid for labour and retail prices. $2000 I reckon.

Yeh I didn't argue on the total. Especially when Nissan quoted me $486 for a free wheeling hub. It's all back together now and back to normal. I noticed a tiny noise in the bearing, so il do them next.

When I went there over Christmas I went from Harvey following random roads. Ended up entering South of Dwello on Logue Brook Rd. Then up South junction formation onto Nth Junction. Logue Brook Rd was a graded gravel rd. The other two in the wet might get slippery after a lot of traffic.

Headed down to Harvey today at 6:30am. Arrived just after 8:30 and headed down Logue Brooke road, snaked my way south east along the fence line until I came to what I think was Mornington road, Then headed North into the state forest and followed another fence line through some very steep valleys and hill climbs. After doing some very steep hill climbs through some very deep ruts (I'd be stuffed without the front Lokka) I was driving along a flat section when all of a sudden my Nav stalled and shuttered. I though I had flooded the engine and kept driving. During the next steep decent I realised that I had no fron drive as I slide down a steep hill. Managed to regain breaking and pulled off to the left on a small ledge.

Only having 2WD meant I couldn't reverse as my tires were full of mud, so I ran my winch cable backwards under the chassis and pulled myself backwards. I then slowly pulled myself up the 100m hill in 3 line pulls. This took me over an hour. I was lucky that the handbrake held and the Nav didn't slide backwards when I was running the cable to the next tree. Once I reached the top I took a side track which took me back to Mornington road and I limped home to Perth.

Looks like I'm up for a second hand transfer case from the wreckers. The Nav is still driveable in 2WD so it shouldn't be any trouble to get around town. Still considering putting Gu front and rear axles and going SAS, just need a spare 10K

At least you got some use of the Lokka and the winch. Lucky you fixed that up too hey. How'd the winch perform?

The ole Tigerz11 didn't miss a beat. Did 4 x 25m pulls up the hill to get me to freedom. I have a feeling my T case chain was already stretched as it would make a slight noise in 4L. I was cruising along doing 15km/h after a hill climb and it just let go, didn't think I had transmission wind up. The Nav gave an almighty shudder and just stalled. when I tried to take off after starting it up it wouldn't move, tried 4H but not much better, then into 2H and I was 100% sure it was the T case.

What's a new chain worth? Plus fitting? Or DIY?

At least you know you can rely on your winch now. Fully tested and proven itself!
