Great work Luke, hope they open the tracks before the muster. Was it a temp close or permanent? or don't know. Was looking forward to the big river crossing drive.
Well hope Nathand22 did get banned cause I've never actually been to Son of Trials, to organise the gymkhana, I'm just helping.

I'm here guys, at this stage I'm still going.
I just got the shits this morning when I saw the notice from Dave.
I was really surprised he was dishing it out but couldn't handle any response.
The thing that gave me the craps the most was how he went at Tony and Ian, when they were just mucking around.
Anyway Enough of the childish school yard nonsense.

I am still looking forward to the muster and will do all I can to support the committee make it a great event.

Spring Ck Rd is the one that's shut and word is its been shut for a while. It's a sealed road but steep up some big hills. My guess is land slip somewhere has buggered that one up. Thing is the 14 Rivers rd goes off that Spring Ck road, doesn't go up the steep bit where i think the damage is. So why can't we get to it?? We went round to three other roads that join up with Spring Ck Rd and they were shut too, but again the 14 river road should be ok!

That's what I want to find out from Council. Fingers crossed

Nothing at the moment.

I need to know if we're going to just do one set of trophies - does that sound fair? First, second and third place? I have to go see the trophy place soon so they can be ready in time.

Have we sorted out how many events there are, and how long it'll take? We have to work out a timetable for the weekend and need to fit these in.

One set is good - no one else knows about it so a little surprise for the lads who turn up

Need the others to discuss how many events..... but if you run more than one, may I suggest having one main course, and then smaller "events" that are for funzies

Hi Guys, The amount of time we need for the events will greatly depend on a few factors that at this point in time are quite hard to judge,

1st, how many people end up attending.

2nd, the courses them selfs, the golf ball and kitchen tongues event will need a separate area then the normal course set out on one of the easy to moderate trails. so until we are actually there and scope the area for the best locations and then actually do a test run through to set out the "mean" time i can only guess at how long it will actually take for each car to pass through the course.

3rd, how many cars will actually be driven by multiple drivers, eg if Mr and Mrs or dad & son ect wish to face off and have a run through.

4th, how many events do we intend to have? i was thinking only two, BUT if you guys think we should have more say the word and i will ask the crew we go to "son of trials" with as to witch events they liked the most. (this may vary due to terrain)

I will go through some you tube videos tonight and try and get some links for you guys to watch so you have a better understanding of the types of events held at "s o t"

Ok guys here is a video posted by the "Patrol club ACT NSW" it shows a few events that are held at the "S O T" 2012.
The first event that you will see is one that i had in mind and has a set number of stops where the "Navi " has to change empty cans from one post to another, at the "S O T" it is held in a big sandy area as you will see, however we could adapt this to any terrain.

At the 2:50min you will see my wife in her LN106 Hilux doing a simple course where the idea is to stay within the bunting tape, do a set number of "multi point turns" and arive at the finish as close as possible to the set/mean time. (the following two cars, Hilux(nicole), and "outback signs" 200 cruiser were also with us""

Then at 8:30min and again at 13:50min you will get a look at the "golf ball" challenge or "mud pit as named by the Patrol club, this one is held in a small dam with a reasonably solid bottom, again we can choose our location or terrain that suits our location.

Looks like a lot of fun to me :truck:

I think we should have one on Friday arvo to kick the weekend off,
then another either Saturday morning before we go out on a trip or in the arvo when we come back.

What is the plans for Sunday? Last muster we where still doing trips and 4wding on Sunday and didn't have to leave till Monday.

Are we planning on doing a night drive or maybe a night event?

That does look like fun.

We have to schedule the events AFTER the official welcome and before the presentation, so we should probably start pencilling in times for everything to occur. Here's a rough idea - note that I've included items that we might NOT actually do, just so it's filled out.

Friday - Noon: Official welcome by committee, presentation of goodies bags & shirts & photo (1 hour)

Friday 2pm: Gymkhana Event #1 and/or state forest run #1 and/or exploration of Janowen tracks

Friday 7pm: Campfire and Night run through Janowen tracks

Saturday 9am: Condamine Gorge (14 Rivers) Run OR state forest run with lunch

Saturday 4pm: Raffle draw for RFDS tickets followed by Gymkhana Event #2

Saturday 7pm: Campfire and night run if desired

Sunday 9am: Gymkhana trophy award, Number plate draw - surprise for attendees, thank you, depart whenever

You could add stuff on Thursday night, or leave that as "quiet time".

Night runs will need someone competent to lead them. Last time, Kyle (Onlock) went with Woody "Can I Break An Axle Any Faster" - there wasn't a huge desire for people to actually do it, I got the feeling that most people wanted to stay at the campfire getting tanked while they watched the lights flickering on the hills. Because of the danger of a night run, we'd have to insist on someone competent and recovery-equipped to go. I doubt there'd be a lot of takers for that, especially if the campfire looks inviting and moreso if the hills are treacherous (eg recent rain like we had at Ados).

If we can't do the Condamine Gorge we need to find something to do on Saturday. There are nearby forests but without any defined goal, wandering aimlessly is sorta fun but might leave the people a little underwhelmed. This is where we demonstrate our planning skills - and get people either determined to come back again, or left feeling rather uncared for and unenthusiastic for the next one.

Gee I hope I can make it
Recovery is slow but its heading in the right direction
I have an apptmnt with surgeon on 24th Sept
I will then be handed back to the work doc and intensive physio
I will do my best to attend with the nav, really don't wanna miss it
Keep up the good work guys

I think your agenda is pretty good Tony.

For thise arriving Friday morning, the welcome is at a good time, plus people may be buggered on Friday from driving up so a Noon start followed by a gymkhana event is a good idea.

Regarding a night drive, why not a night gymkhana. It'd be safer, easier, something for everyone to watch.

You could have brighest lights competition. A drive by parkers competition. Reversing by whatever light competition. Just thoughts.

Saturday should be the big day, big trips on Saturday and on Sunday maybe a 2hr casual touristy type drive departing at 9am????? Sunday's a bit tricky.

that youtube Vid was good - I liked the course at 1.30 (sandy loop) and 8.30 and easy cause 1 or 2 people could man something like that (which means we might have two going at once somewhere.

There is a small quarry near the entrance we could do something similar in for starters. There is also the wombat holes which are fun forwards and back, do a loop etc...

Also note that some utes (*like mine) won't have a Navi with them

Tony - schedule looks good. I still reckon a lot of people will turn up Saturday. Maybe have a 2pm Gymkhana slot?

Sunday as the last day people are packing up - we could give them the options of pack up and a scenic drive leaves by 10am, finish by 2pm, o there's still time to get home

Keep getting better Sparra!

Honestly, I think Sunday, we should leave unscheduled.

I've put up your lists of what to do around Janowen Luke, we could print that out and hand to people and they can do what they want. It's a toughie, but I think just leave it open.

Just thought, if we hold the gymkhana at Janowen, will we be up for 4WD fees????? If so, who pays???? We need to ask the Janoweners.

Yes you'll have to pay the 4wd fee

But there's so many tracks and lookouts on the property to go look at, I don't see why you wouldn't want to go have fun playing round the park but that's me

I'm happy to leave Sunday open

Hi guy's, if some people dont have "navis" like me an LJ, we can swap with others that are missing "navi's" or pinch other peoples, well thats what we do at "S O T" anyway.
The schedule looks fine to me, im happy to do what ever you guys decide and will be happy to scope out and set up courses where ever you want and how many you want,
As i said before i think if we look at the the courses to take no longer than 5min per car and no less the 3min that should allow us to gestimate roughly how much time we need to get everyone through a course.

Running multiple courses at once is what happens at "S O T" and is a great idea which allows a more relaxed atmosphere so people can choose when and what course they will do and as long as they complete or attempt all courses by the end of the weekend they will be eligible for the prize.
The only thing with doing that is getting enough volunteers to martial the event and also if we have the start and finish line in the one location it will cut down on how many martial's are required, some courses will need more then one person to martial as the course may have vehicles leaving the line of site of the start finish line, also if we have compulsory things like "Multi point turn bays" or tight bends where reversing may incur penalties ect we will need people to man those locations.
Basically i think we are going to need at-least 2 people for each course, and as said we may need 1 or 2 more depending on the terrain and style event, Maybe what we can do is ask drivers to do short stints at being a martial that way we are sure to have enough.
