Late 2010 D40 Dual Battery System

Hi all, I was running a narva vsr but due to the smart alternator it wasn't working as required and never charged the second battery properly. As the car is only 3 months old and obviously still under warranty, I wasn't prepared to do the green wire chop. Didn't want to spend the dollars on a DC DC charger.. Went to home of 12 volt in Adelaide where they make these ignition isolators which supposedly fix the problem.. It's all wired in, next weekend will tell me if it works as required!!

It stands to reason it doesn't work. All this unit is is an isolating relay. The only way you can charge the aux battery effectively is a dc-dc charger, an ac-dc charger or an alternator that knows it isn't smart. Cut the green wire. All good. Job done. No extra cost.

Cut the green wire, or do what I did and unplug the small harness at the negative terminal - constant 14.1-14.4v VSR works perfectly.
Plug the harness back in when you go for a service if your that worried about it.

I recently unplugged the sensor at the negative terminal of the battery as suggested by oldmate45 (mine is a 2014 D40 ST) and it seems to be running fine and putting out at least 14 volts all the time. Just looking for feedback over last year or so for anyone who has done the same...any issues or disadvantages over a longer period?

Mate I've been running mine that way now for over 18 months and have had no dramas. Scangauge reads around 14.4V every time I check it.
Second battery in the tray stays 100% charged.
I just plug mine back in before I go to the stealership for a service and unplug when I get home.

I did the green wire mod on our pathfinder series 4. Been running fine. I don't have a second battery, but after the battery went flat a couple of times a lot quicker than it should have I found the mod now charges the battery much better. Where previously the fridge killed the battery in about 2 hours after a 1hr freeway drive now it will last much longer, or sitting in the car with accessories on for about an hour after city driving.

Do the mod and the battery will be topped to full all the time. Appears the alternator is designed to save fuel by only kicking into gear when the engine first starts and when there is reduced load on the engine ie coasting. Barrelling down the highway at 110 apparently doesn't qualify as battery charging time.

Even without a second battery the green wire mod is warranted or you can reduce the life of your battery.
