I have recently been doing some respraying on the back panels of my Nissan Navara 2011 Outlaw 3.0 v6 I gave the paint supplier the code and I proceeded to spray the panels. However when I unwrapped the protection it was a completely different colour of white. I returned to the body shop and they then told me there are a few different shades and he kindly mane me a new batch for free. I returned home re prepped the pickup and resprayed. As proud as punch I started to peel off all the protection just to realise it was no different. The new paint was bright white (Ross from friends white teeth white and the original paint was more like off white / cream.

I understand the pickup is 12 years old and an exact match would be difficult. However this is like two different colours.

Is there anywhere i can find a code RAL number to tell me the colour that my pickup was painted.

I'd appreciate any help or advice please.

Thanks Conor

We have a brand new car and before it was a month old it got a stone chip above the windscreen. I took it to a car paint guy who looked at the paint code, got out the exact colour and tested it - it was wrong, a different shade of white. He mixed a little black into it (I don't think he used any other colour) and tested that - perfect. You can't see the chip any more, either, it was a perfect match.

The car was absolutely brand new - it was manufactured for us specifically, construction started in early June last year and the car was shipped late June. The stone chip was discovered in August.

It's not just age - I don't think the manufacturers are getting their own paint settings correct, and it needs a paint specialist to mix the colours correctly to match.

Thanks Old.Tony for the reply. I just don't understand how it is so difficult to mix a colour and print the RAL number on the paperwork or on the vehicle somewhere.

I have now organised to have the paintwork scanned and a paint mixed to match the existing colour. Costly but the only way it can be achieved as the manufacture doesn't seem to know either nor do they seem to care. This appears to be the same as all manufactures regardless.

Did u use the paint code that is on the metal plate usually inside the door or under the bonnet?
I recently bought some touch up paint using this code

I did a respray on a few panels, matched code etc. etc., absolutely nothing like it and sticks out like dog's balls. I don't really mind, I was just covering up where painted had flecked to stop rust, but I don't think it's unusual for the colour to be out by a mile.
