Wants to move forward in reverse and neutral, just changed the transmission fluid, can anyone help point me in the right direction. Does it need a new program?

What type of fluid was used?
Was it factory or aftermarket?
Did you just drop the fluid or pan off and filter change?
Year and model of vehicle?

if it wants to still move forward in reverse, doesn't sound like an oil problem. Sounds like a problem with gear selection in the box, probably just a dodgy solenoid or electricals inside it

I used nissan spec Castrol transmission oil, I cleaned the filter too. It's a D40 2012. Today I removed the vavle body and cleaned all the solenoids, they were really dirty and like tiny filings all in the little holes. I'll refill tomorrow as it takes a while and let you know how it goes, cheers for reply.

Cheers mate, had the solenoids off today, the valve body was full of crap, tiny filings in everything. Assembled it this evening, will give another flush then refill, fingers crossed.

Let us know how you go, definitely do the filter as a part of the service, it was really simple to do (obviously you'd know considering how far into the box you are)

I bought mine with a full service history at 250k, I'm at almost 300 and already done the fluid again. (once when I bought it and once again after 50k).

For what it's worth all, it's a simple procedure to do the trans oil.

After doing the trans oil, can you feel any difference? Or drives the same?
I just bought a D40 and sometimes I think the trans takes a little bit too long to lockup in 4th and 5th...

Generally smoother shifts and feels like it doesn't take as long to get to the next gear. Even in mine it feels like it holds 3rd for a bit too long before it hits 4th but it's sporadic.

In saying that, when it does happen it's nothing noticeable to anyone else but me in the drivers seat.

I certainly do my friend. With this beauty right here - $20 pump from ebay

I use this religiously, it has made life so much easier on all my cars I've had and for the price will gladly replace it again and again.

one of the hoses it comes with is specifically thinner and firmer to get down any dip-stick tube or filler neck.

while you're there it's best to change the trans filter as well and take the sump off.

Just remember to refill her with the same amount that came out + a couple ml.

When I first did a change on it it wasn't the usual change what's in the drain bucket..

1) drain fluid

2) refill with same amount that came out

3) drive the car for 30 mins or so

4) drain the pan again

5) refill the same amount that came out.

This let me change as much as possible by getting some of the older oil out of the converter as well.

It's not a 100% flush, but better than just doing what comes out of the pan.

Welcome mate.

Value for money it can't be beaten. It's a bit slow on the pump but it does the job.
