Hey guys
Im looking at getting another Nav. This time a d40. I would love a 2013 ST with the 140kw 2.5lt but a 2006 popped up with really low kms.

I was wondering, were there any upgrades/fixes/improvements etc that have occurred since 2006 and now?

Fuel economy & power first. The new ones get under 10LPHK and the easiest way to do that with the old one is to put in on a tilttray.

2006/7 models had axle issues, should have been recalled for those (check it!). I'm not sure if those models were affected by the bonnet retention strap issue and I really doubt they had an issue with the rims.

The older ones have vacuum-operated turbocharger vanes, narrow cores in the radiator making them prone to a little extra heat, but apart from that there's not a great deal of difference mechanically.

The older ones also have lovely surprises down the sides of the seat and under the carpet around the holes where the seats bolt in - $2 coins, the pearl earring from the girl that you picked up that wanted $50 for her services, 3 french fries with fungus on it so advanced they've developed language skills and are campaigning for equal rights AND the lollipop the daughter was eating that flew out of her hand in surprise when the owl smacked into the window at night and everyone shat themselves. The 2013 has NONE of these.
 
Thanks for the great reply Tony. I heard of clutches being flogged out prematurely on the earlier d40, anyone heard of this?
 
Clutches in any of these utes can be a problem if they're still running a dual mass flywheel. With luck, the clutch in that one's already failed and been replaced with a single-mass (which is what we traditionally think of as a flywheel, not the tinplate+lego+clocksprings of the dual mass) and a HD clutch (eg from Exedy).

If it still has the original clutch, it's not the end of the world unless you want to tow with it, or are particularly heavy on takeoffs. You can resolve that issue - paint your side windows black so you can't see the Hilux beside you at the lights = slower takeoff speeds.
 
On the clutches defence...Im at 86000 in a 08 kingcab...still the original clutch and i tow a car trailer im a hoon and i like to hit the sand dunes....actually never had a issue with it.so even if its the original one its not the end of the world if the pedal still feels o.k
 
Personal preference really.

After having both a 2010 (127/400) and a 2013 (140/450) i can say for me the 2013 is a much better vehicle.

The (140/450) engine the largest improvement. Not just the extra power and torque on paper but the engine calibration is much better. Its far less rev reliant and has heaps for grunt down low. It also holds it grunt for a much larger rev range. Not to mention it's using about 2 L per 100 less with the vehicle set up identical to the older one.

The 2013 also has the updated interior which is much nicer and better quality plastics. Overall its better quality over the earlier ones.

That's my view anyways
