Hey Mate, i don't have these but have been looking into similar ones as my passenger side plastics have separated letting in moisture.
it depends on what year model your d40 is aswell as to weather they fit.

Could they be worse than the original headlights? I don't know about any other ute headlamps, but the D40 would have to be down there with the worst. Deplorable performance in my view. If you are just fitting for the 'bling' perspective or sex appeal, then good luck.
You are doing the right thing by asking for others views but really, the decision to fit should be prioritised on safety/performance ahead of the looks.
The daytime running lights (if incorporated) are a great idea but will need additional wiring to connect.

A lot of aftermarket headlights have rubbish reflectors in them. But yeah you may want the loom.
Old Joe I think my R51 lights are as good as any with 60/55 crap globes , I now use led anyway and they are great.

Do they meet ADR, if not they could be illegal and potentially void and insurance claim or give you trouble getting rego cleared. Pretty unlikely, but you need to go into the modification knowing what could happen.

I have them and the light output is equally crap! However I've upgraded the bulbs to 100w hid conversion ( 2 sets as the high beam and low beam are now separate bulbs) and the output is now staggering!
Worth noting though they don't have the electric hight adjustment and there's no way the transfer it from your old light units!

Had a look last night, $500 for the pair, worth more than the car itself today! :)
