Im 99% sure i will pull the trigger on the Ranger tomorrow.

I have been reading a much as possible and i was able to find a few things that have gone wrong with the Ranger but like Big Zetor said i have read far worse on here, yet i never experienced those problems myself over three different Navs and travelling over 530,000km in them.
At the end of the day i will take the punt and see how it goes.
After all its only a car.

Hope you enjoy the new ride Nathan. It seemed likely that that was the way you were headed.

Not sure what I would be looking at if in the market. Something with a bit more oomph would suit. Maybe a Ranger too?

Look forward to the final outcome tomorrow.

Good luck.

Spent the day in one - felt a little under powered but I did have a full fire unit on it ;-)

Other than that I liked it. Fair bit of room in the back seat (for a dual cab, especially compared to the D22).

For the uninitiated, what's the price and driving difference between the 2.2 & 3.2

Thanks guys i will keep you all posted on how things go.

Not sure about the 2.2 mate, i never asked about that version.

How did the 3.2 tow?? auto or manual?
they do seem to have more off the bottom but not quite as much over rev as the YD25 D40.

Oh on another note i will have some powder coated 17" rims and stock tyres for sale just not sure how much, they have only done 15,000km no off road use and no scratches on the rims.

I will also sell the scotty bobcat steep angle sliders, they were zinc coated and powder coated before they got bolted onto the last D40 but now have there fair share of scratches but with a bit of black paint they will look ok.
I bought them for $850 and had them zinc coated and powder coated will sell them for $450

Rear removable ladder rack and tourneau cover to suit with velcro flaps to cover the whole when rack is out

No towing, it was a slip on unit - but still about 900kg. Its a manual - shift pattern is a little odd but you'd get used to it.

My mum bought her bt 50 in April 2013. Drove from melbourne to mildura and got the first service done, the tech noticed the rear main was leaking and she had it fixed at the next service as they were heading on holidays, personally I would think that should nearly qualify for a brand new replacement, 2 days old and leaking. It's the 3.2 with an auto

Yeah that sucks, glad to here they picked up on it and fixed it though, some of those pimple faced kids that work at the stealerships wouldnt notice if the gearbox was missing and would just wonder why it was pushed into the workshop :confused3:

i have both a ranger{supplied by work} and a stx with the v9x V6....not a stx 550 theo. I have spent a lot of time behind the wheel of the 2.2 ranger clocking up 61000 kms for work in just over a year.

there are things in the ranger I like...such as the hill decent. It isnt in my navara. then the other bits and pieces you get with the ranger...the stereo is better that the Nav...there are more functions in the trip computer and the general layout of the dash is more user friendly...seats are better....ground clearance is better stock. the ranger seems roomier too.

but the ranger has so much lag you need to make an appointment for the next day to get across a T junction....after every service it leaks oil....the gearbox has no 1.1 gear and hunts up and down when overtaking. It get hot and the fan roars away for the whole day...that gets old really quick now. Even the 3.2 does that too....noisy! I do like the ranger but mainly for the body and asthetics. the navara looks old now

However I bought a navara.....and had owned mitsubishis for 20 years before that. I got my navara for a song but that is beside the point. I am certain the navara is better built...smoother to drive....brakes better{yes they both have the exact same tyres} navara has smooth power delivery and noticeable less bloody lag...still there but at least in has enough torque off idle to get accross a road withount putting heart in mouth...and in my opinion...still far better that a 3,2 ranger as well

why did I buy a navara....for the v6....my brother bought one and he does some pretty heavy work towing a big van all over the map. whilst the gear box is some what strange it is far better than a ranger.

Yeah ive owned a few Navara's none were the V6 and to be honest the price of the V6 is just to high for me to justify, for the same price as the cheapest V6 i could find i bought the ST 12 months ago with everything on it, from the var work to the lift and all the little buts in between.

Also comparing the 2.2 to the 3.2 and then to the Nav's V6 is just not a fair comparison really. as i said ive now driven well over half a million kms in Navs so i feel like i know them pretty well and i too loved all three of them, BUT after having a few drives in the 3.2 Ranger the power off the bottom smashes the yd25 D40 and on paper it has more KW's and Torque.
As for the brakes im sure the Rangers felt better then both of my D40's, remember all three Navs Thai, spain and v6 run different brakes so the V6 with its bigger callipers and disks is prob what the other two models need.
Anyway thanks for the feedback and im glad you love the Nav as much as i do.

so if this does go ahead can we get dion to do a name change? im thinking nathenDranga?

haha but really if the 3.2 rangers go as good as they say they do I think one could be my next truck!

cheers

old tony?

oohh and congrats on makin up your bloody mind
hope you made the right choice
only time will tell
cheers

Sliders went to my brother in law who bought my old Nav, which is good because the mounting plates are already on the chassis.

That tow bar the the XLT comes with is just plain dumb and reduces the departure angle to zero and unless i wanted to plough my sister farms paddocks i really have no need or want for one.

I chose the TJM rear protection/step tow bar.

Put down the deposit today and got the finance sorted so now its just a matter of when i can pick it up.
