Was involved in an accident and The engine chain started to rattle every time on an engine start up. Took it to this mechanic and put it on his diagnostic machine and said the oil pressure has dropped due to the oil pump failure and only to find that the pump has a hole as a result of an accident.The mechanic decided to strip the strip the engine instead of just removing the pump. I had to leave him as he has health issues and the engine was assembled by the nissan service center men. All the parts used ( oil pump with the oil jet on, the gasket set and the top gasket ) are genuine bought at nissan parts department. The engine has power, not smoking, not overheating but rattling when I press the gas pedal and stops rattling when I leave the pedal on the road. So I am on my wits end and wondering what could cause engine to rattle. Please help !

what year is your d22? common rail engine or rotary pump?

does it sounds like combustion rattle (up top) or mechanical rattle (bottom end) ?
