Can anyone tell me the correct amount of oil for a 1992 d21 transmission?

I'm asking this question because the Haynes manual says 4L yet when I first filled it 6 weeks ago I could only get 3L in. I've since read on an American forum that Nissan placed the filler plug too low on the D21 and that it is ok to add another 1L via the shifter hole.

Regards iPom

Nissan Service Manual says:

In a 4x4 with a KA24E with 5 speed manual (FS5W71C) - 4 litres.

In a 4x2 - 2 litres.

Thanks for the quick reply Pro-Nav. I've got the shifter out at the moment as I am replacing the rubber boot which was shredded so I will add 4L through the shifter hole.

Many thanks again Dave

She's had a hard life methinks...... 371,000 ks on the odometer!!!. It's on a 2nd reconditioned engine I think as there is yellow paint pen writing on the rocker cover and the front differential. I'm not sure about the gearbox though, both the shift boot and release fork boot were shot to pieces so I have replaced both ($22 & $33 each from Nissan). The gearbox was in bits when I bought it so I had it rebuilt for the princely sum of $700!.
