Torsion bar specs...please add info

Are we certain all torsion bars are made out of the same metal compound as said above because this would make a huge difference in spring?

I bought a set of Iron Man torsion bars today
Thought it a good idea to start a thread listing the specs as many shops will simply state " oh yes up graded bars , heavy duty"...never know what dia they are or how much increase in spring rate

anyway all aftermarket torsion bars should be give or take a few mm the same length..893mm

The dia of the Iron Man HD bar is 26mm....it is this dia and a function of the working length that dictates spring rate or angular deflection as a function of applied torque.


If others have any other brands of bar would you mind measuring the dia and adding this info to the thread.

Gazza, you seem to be good at maths, why dont you take some measurements of the front end geometry to work out the leverages, and then wheight the front end carefully and measure the droop and tell us what the spring rates are?

oem torsion bars are 26mm dia.

so it looks like all these after market tb's are actually the same as the orignals, unless there is something else that makes them heavy duty like the material they are made of.

Yes I noticed that too. Much thicker and less taper leading upto the splines.

Hi all, just a quick check on google reveals at least 10 "manufacturers" on torsion bars in Asia. Mostly India and China. I would guess nearly all the big name suspension suppliers would source theirs from the what ever company could supply at the cheapest price for the specs they require. The spec would probably all be similar for most automotive uses.
As stated earlier try asking your supplier where they get their parts from, we all know a lot is shocks are just rebadged as well..
