Hey everyone.

I'm looking for some help. I need the measurement of a td27 block bellhousing surface to the clutch surface of the flywheel. I'm build a direct injection Td27. (Calling it a bd27) and I'm machining a custom aluminum flywheel as this motor was never sold in north America. I believe this measurement to be somewhere around 1.5 " or about 38mm. Thanks
PFA

Great Idea, I need a flywheel too.
Would be nice to have a billet unit with replaceable surface.
Other sources suggest the 4cyl diesel gets a little lumpy at idle when the flywheel is too light. I think one guy went to 8kg (17.6lbs).

If you're interested I would make you one. I have read about the lumpy idle, I have a 20lbs unit on my sd25 now and have not experienced this. It is however sensitive to stalling when the engines cold.

The aluminum TD/BD flywheel is almost finished. The final weight is a tad over 17lbs. I'm getting my offset measurements from a sd25 and vg33. I'm using a vg30 FS5R30a with a adapter plate and a 250mm vg30 clutch. This is the setup I run on my sd25 now. It's really hard messing with this diesel stuff over here as we only got N/A Sd's for a few years in the 80's

i suggest having a read up on the TD42 crankshaft problems, especially related to flywheels.
I appreciate the concern, I don't believe this will be a problem with the smaller Td27. Long crankshafts are historical known to have terrible harmonics, yes aluminum flywheels absorb less and will add to the problem. But with a significantly shorter crank, and 4mm less stroke, I'm willing to take the chance.

I am really hoping to push the boundaries here and make good numbers with a 4 cylinder diesel. If I were in a different part of the world I would choose a 4jj1.

thats all there ever was. no turbo 4cl sd engines. 720 utes where not overly common and we get a lot of jap imports here. dad had one for a while.

the 6cyls are generally far better harmonics than the 4cyls.
there is a good info from the guys who experimented with all that. it became one of the big limits, even with stronger billet cranks.
it will be interesting to see how you get on.

Okay, so similar to here. After 87 no more diesels for us, and unfortunately I live in what's said to be the rusty place in the world, so vehicles get scrapped very early on. Toyota does corrosion testing on thier vehicles here in Halifax. Here is a picture of the frame on a 93 nissan hardbody I have for parts.

I hope I don't run into this issue. I want to start a separate thread on the engine build. Would love to find some more information on bd30 engines. Lots of good info in Thailand but the language barrier has always been a huge issue
