Sitting under a coconut tree in Tobago.....why.....coz Nissan can't fix my Frontier.
I've done some searching on this and the two main culprits for this oddly enough seem to be the MAF - Mass Air Flow Sensor, and the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system.
Some have complained that the MAF is dirty and cleaning it fixed the problem, others had to replace it. With the EGR, same thing, although some found there were hoses or pipes that had been damaged by ham-fisted service drones.
You could have a look at those too - hope it helps!
Kraftypg, thanks for the links, dloading now...the more manuals the better i feel.
Seems like a great bunch of guys here....well, other side of the world from me!!! Appreciate all the feedback...

Thanks for this info Tweake, i have called the mech. this morning and given this info to him, whilst the other ZD30 vehicle is in the shop, they will investigate and see what happens......will report back laterno maf sensor in the ZD30 navaras. (you have been reading the patrol info )
what could be happing is they are miss reading the code.
one common problem is the timing valve in the pump wears and cannot maintain timing. the pump has its own timing sensor but that is referenced to the crank sensor.
odds are what they are thinking is a crank error is a pump timing error.
if your lucky its just the control board on the pump going bad otherwise its new pump time.
If the van is started without the throttle being fully depressed the engine light comes on, and the revs surge a little at start. (Anyone seen this behaviour before???)
The crank error is still there......they couldn't find any sensors related to the fuel pump, BUT...wait for it, they feel the pump is failing.
What is strange is that if when starting the van, the throttle is fully depressed then starting, no check engine light comes on and the van drives fine. If the van is started without the throttle being fully depressed the engine light comes on, and the revs surge a little at start. (Anyone seen this behaviour before???)
