Has anyone looked at fitting the R51pathfinder IRS to their D40 Navara. if so what problem does this pose.

that would be silly, do a 4 or 5 link coil conversion and keep the sronger rear end if you really want a better ride.

Big Zetor
Explain silly please.
Ive found out the r51 irs is a bolt-in application, all readily available and not overly costly, no major dramas regarding engineering. Other modifications eg exhaust etc all fairly minor.
I think its probably not a bad way to get rid of crap leafsprings (stock or aftermarket) and get coils/shocks or be able to run airstruts or airbag rear, mostly for towing/carting heavy load, not necessarily for off road ability, articulation/travel - which seems to be the reason people do 4 or 5 link rears.
Thats my thoughts, just wanting to know if anyone else has looked at it or done it.

It has been looked at before and the main issue would be the re-engineering the rear chassis to mount the irs cradle .It could even be easier to cut n shut the chassis plus a tonne of strengthening The biggest issue is getting the strength where you need it.No real gains in towing capacity or load capacity but would definately soften the ride of the rear end .As a bonus you would get a disk brake rear end .
The complete cradle would set you back around 2k from a wreckers .Then get it engineered so a rough guess would be an easy 5k spend

You can put coils in the rear for under 3k. Patrol diff and fab the links and mounts yourself
