G'day. I have a 1997 QD32 Navara and was wondering how to get to the banjo bolt to clean what I suspect is a clogged filter. I know this ute is slow at it's best (non turbo) but I can only go 98km/h recently after a service. I can usually go 110 easy and 120 flat. I've followed the fuel line down as far as I can to the pump but can't see/feel much at all. Do I need to take the manifold off to get a good go at it?
And to the QD32 owners that have cleaned it bc of power loss, did it resolve it?
Cheers

After you remove the banjo bolt it's down below that.

I filled up with a bad batch of diesel and had to limp it home 1300K's at 80kph.

I ended up using a pencil with the eraser and pushing that down and it will pull the filter out on the end of it. Give it a clean and you may be able to reuse it.

I believe some patrols have the same type of filter, I helped a mate get his out the same way.

Thanks for the reply lads. Yeah righto Dave I'll give it a go. Now I have just pressure washed the pump so I can now see what I'm doing. I can see a hex head about 17mm on the rear end side of the pump (tray side) which has two lines coming from it. what is this? it has a line coming up from the fuel tank and a line going into the injectors? the other line comes from the fuel filter and curls around to the front of the pump and it is the only line linked to an exact same gold hex head. i am more inclined to think it is this one. can i just get a confirmation on it and if so what is the other one?
so is it the one with only one line and at the front of the pump (bull bar side of the pump). Cheers

You are correct in your thinking. The one with 2 lines is the return line to the tank

Yeah thanks bods. I did it last night and just took it for a spin then and it has made no difference in the top speed. I can still only go 95! It sounds better on idle and is quicker through the gears though. But yeah back to square one now… Any ideas??

So have you managed to check the banjo strainer as this is nearly always the issue that is being described, had the exact same issue with my qd32, I couldn't find mine after checking twice, took it to a diesel shop and they took it out and threw it away, no more issues, it only gets caught with soft filter fibers mostly lol

Yeah me and my old man serviced it a coupla weeks ago. Changed the oil and oil, fuel and air filters. Yes I cleaned out the banjo strainer with turps and then air compressed it after it dried, it was clean as a whistle… put it back in but nah its still slow as shit. I just took the fuel filter out and it was half full of bloody water! wtf is going on… I am dropping the tank now to see what the hells going on
