Hey all, I've got a 4x2 D22 and I'm after some decent off road tyres that won't void my insurance policy e.g they have to be commercial or LT, I tend to go off road on almost a weekend basis and want something that will handle some messy terrain.

Bridgestone Dueler D697 in one of the sizes that has an LT rating would be my suggestion (I use the earlier D694 but they've been superseded now and the 697 is the replacement).

http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/D697.aspx

I wanted a tyre that was good on road (where I do 90% of my distance and rely on my ute for work) but still durable enough for fairly serious off road use.

About the only area I've found the 694 a bit lacking in is in mud and even then it's still so much better than the stock tyres as to be in a different class, it's a true heavy duty All Terain tyre that doesn't look like one.

The 697 might as well be a racing slick in mud, useless. They are a great on road tho. They are great in dry off-road conditions too, but so are any other road tyre.

You man is it Light Truck spec?

All the ATKO's are from memory, very good all round tyre, some haters out there but most people who have owned them love em, I have had 2 sets now and they last a good 80-100000 km, they are pretty good in the wet and not to bad off road.

They aren't a 'road' tyre that would be a HT tyre they are an AT tyre.

And sure they aren't good in mud (I already said that) but no LT rated AT tyre is any good in mud. Mud is the domain of MT tyres and I'm not aware of any LT rated MT tyres.

If you've got a suggestion for an LT rated 'Mud Terrain' type tyre then suggest away (I'd probably buy them myself) but like the OP I require LT rated tyres (with me it's because of work insurance reasons).

I've run into a minor problem, I decided it was time for some new tyres, and to get the correct rated tyres I went looking for my placard, now my problem is its actually missing its not in the door jams or in the glove box can anyone help?

Yeah, im just assuming that if you want an open wheel diff 2wd to be a bit more off-road capable, then you'd want mud tyres on the back wheels at least. Also, i would have thought just about any mud tyre would be available in LT.

Pretty sure you are right mate. Most manafactures do a variety of LT M/T's it's just what profile is LT rated changes between brands. I'm sure my Hercules trail diggers are a LT M/T on the code.

That's true but I had trouble locating many who did LT M/T in the size I was looking for (other sizes I didn't want were ok though).
