I don't like your chances. Not without changing the whole front diff and then the rear will be different.
D22 runs a 6x139.7 stud pattern and D40 runs a 6x114.3 stud pattern, so you can see there the hubs on the D40 are smaller than the D22.
That's not to say it can't be done, but from the factory the D40 front axle shafts are bolted into the front hubs for when using 4wd, the D22 models that had fixed front hubs, had a plate that bolted to the hub face and had splines on the inside to attach to the front axle shaft inside the hub. With these you could simply unbolt the plates and fit up manual front hubs.
