Does anyone know if the cylinder lifters are hydraulic or manual? I have had a rattle apear in my engine and a few mechanic mates I know have come and checked it out and they Rekon a lifter has shit it's self. Just wanting to know as they said manual lifters can be replaced by them self but hydraulic ones are usually a set

Sorry for got that bit haha It's a 3ltr 2004 str so a zd30 I'm guessing?

they have manual lifters (as you call them). theres two different types, cup (where you change the whole 'cup' that sits over the spring) or shimmed (change the shim on top of the 'cup').

Thanks heaps tweak'e, I ment to say mechanical was stressing a bit when the boys said it could cost a heap to fix

bucket....not cup. early ones are bucket only, later is bucket and shim. i think 2004 would be bucket and shim.

Any idea where I can order shims from as I'm guessing genuine Nissan parts will cost a lot more than others. Yes it's a bucket and shim arrangement found that out when I got the service manual off Here lastnight. Checked valve clearances and there as big as 40 thou ><

thank you dave, email sent hopefull hear from them tomorrow, ridinmg the pushy to work sucks in the dark >< hopefully have the nav up and runing again soon
