hey i just brought a d40 duel cab and wanna give it a 3 or 4" lift but the guys at arb told me if i lift any higher than 2" then ill start burning out my cv joints does anyone know if this is going to cause me a problem?

welcome to the forum,
CV angles are a concern but there are other things that can and will cause probs.

1) wheel alignment, you will need to do something like offset caster bushes and or adjustable upper control arms (UCA's) in order to get back correct alignment.

2) you will have very little droop and get allot of coil bucket contact with the UCA which will cause more probs.

3) cv angles

To get more then 2" lift but retain standard geometry you will need to do a diff drop, something like the Calmini 5" kit for eg

3" is max. ARB say 2" as thats all theyre legally allowed to sell and fit. More than 3" and as Nathan said youll have to do drop bracket. Best bet is 3" with a body lift as youll have more clearance, improved ride and save some coin.

4 inch is achievable with good cv angles.but the cost will blow out.2"spacers and new upper control arms with 2"body is easy on the wallet.and you won't loose any droop.

Anything over 2" is tecnically illegal in most states without a engineer cert.don't let this stop you but be aware of all legal and insurance issues.

Spacer are illegal too, I think. And remember 2" lift + 1" up it tire size is still illegal as its 3" total. Easy around tho get an engineer to it off.

I come from one of the lower states.......I was pleasantly surprised to read the other day in the S.A gov site that spacers above or below the springs are o.k.. but not over 2".
I really want to engineer mine but I cannot find the right parts to do it right.hardly worth so much effort and $$$ for 100mm extra lift and 33"with only 50mm droop...even 100mm droop....what's the point ...untill the right parts turn up (currently looking at modding some longer toyota shocks) I'm illegal.

LOL, Most car out there are. Street or Off road but just because your not road worthy doesn't mean your not safe.

Got pulled over in my dirty old 5lt statesman the copper had ago for spacers in the front wheels. I said to the copper whats safer my spacers with my wider wheels be better road holding or your chipped commodore with cheap ass steely. The copper laughed and let me go.

Realistically , they all say there 40 mm but my D-40 with a 2 inch tough dog lift came up 70 mm at the front and near 100 mm at the rear before a little settling , and even now is way over 40 mm
