Canberra have pity !!!!!
Gots me a question for the wise
I was thinking about mounting 15 watt LED work lights on the diff as reversing lights. The fitting itself is all solid state and waterproof so am thinking it shouldnt be an issue. However thought best to see what others think. My only concern is vibration

LED's shouldn't suffer any more from vibration there than on some bars, any other globes I'd think it would be an issue but LED's I wouldn't, even so it's not like they are that expensive to replace just buy a dozen at a time

Very true however in the waterproof work lights am guessing the LEDS are sealed with epoxy .I figure hey they are fairly cheap to buy these days so might just risk it and see what happens.

You can get a roll of LED lights off eBay that are flexible and waterproof, I just installed 2 rolls under my brothers GQ for night wheeling. There are about 600 in a roll and you can pick a roll up for about $70.

I have those as well but they dont give out as much light as the high power fittings. I already have 2 x 15watt LED work lights like this

I was originally going to replace my old lights mounted at the back of the mud flaps but these dont fit too well there.

It's certainly worth experimenting with. They'll be on the unsprung part of the car so they'll cop an absolute hammering; if they fail then we'll know what they are and aren't capable of and as you've said they're cheap.

Hey I had a similar intention.
But on the diff I think you are cutting out too much light.
The tray and bumper bar shadow would limit your lighting area too much.
I'm sure you've thought about that though.

On the towing metal work is a better spot. Some flood mode slim bars on either side of the toe bar mount would go better!

Personally I'd keep it away from the road-side of the suspension. Soldered joints can come apart under vibration and as Dion points out, they'd take a hammering on the axle - literally! The little circuit boards inside would be destroyed.

Seriously, what about hooking up something like a 12V version of a series of bicycle headlights. Compact, lightweight, low power consumption and bright as. I've seen these on eBay as compact driving lights, and I think Hella sell some as well (although I don't know if the Hella ones are LED or not).

lol yeah I seen them. bought a pair of the single led ones. still in the mail.

I have 5 watt high power T10 units in my tail lights as my standard reverse lights and damm those little suckers are BRIGHT.
Its hard to imagine how something we used to only think of as an indicator light on a sterio unit is now something so bright
