Hi to all, just wondering if anyone would have a clue to how I managed to mess up a front wheel bearing change. I replaced bothe front. In doing so put 4wd low in so I could undo wheel hub bolt, whilst Changing front drivers side noticed drive shaft was loose in hub so replaced snap clip put all back together and now truck will not come put of 4wd low, jacked up front and wiggled steering.
Drove it around, forward and backwards.
Disconnected battery.
Checked fuse.
Had ecu back to factory settings.........

Now missing half my scalp from pulling my hair out....

Anyone know how I.messed this up please???šŸ˜

Welcome to the forum. While I don't have an answer for you I expect some other member with experience will be along soon to help.

We really need to know what kind of Nav you have before we can really help you. The d40 goes from 2004 to 2021. There have been a LOT have changes from the beginning to the end. Is it 6 or 4 cylinder, Spanish or Thai (VSK or MNT), Manual or auto, Year, ...? In the future for all post for help it would be good to lead with this basic info. Hope we can help.

Sorry I took so long to reply. I have an automatic Nav, so probably can't help. Have you tried putting the car in gear and rocking the back in forth at maybe someone else can try and take it out of lo range. It sounds like it is bound up to me.

No worries thanks for getting back to me. I will give that a go as I haven't tried that but tried nearly everything else, will let you know if I have any joy. Cheers. Wayne

Did you have any joy rocking the car?

Generally if it's bound up you'll feel it - it will be very reluctant to move, and you won't be able to push it by hand on flat ground at all.

The problem usually exists because although the D40s have a limited slip diff in the rear, the front is an open diff and the transfer case has no slip mechanism. I get mine out of this sort of thing by reversing while changing steering input with the selector in 2HI, then driving slowly forward changing the steering input again - it eventually lets go.

Test the servo fuses (engine bay, look in the little box that sits behind the battery and check every fuse).

If it still doesn't work, you can hoist the car (jack stands on all 4 corners, if necessary), remove the servo from the rear of the transfer case and use a large screwdriver to turn the mechanism within - 270 degrees. The first 180 degrees will move it from 4LO to 4HI and the last 90 degrees disengages the pawls between the front and rear outputs so it becomes 2WD again.
