Engine Knocking

Sucks having to see your navara sent away on a flatbed truck, driving to work Friday morning and cruise control shutdown by itself l, no other engine knocks or noise out of ordinary, then went to drive home started find, only got about 100m then went to ****, loud hiss than knocking like crazy, find out Monday the damage.
Just seeing if anyone else experienced something like this and what I could be up for, nav’s run beautifully until now,

Just got a call from mechanic he saying engines blown/ bad knocking he recommends engine replacement
