Possibly stupid question, so forgive me.

Are all flares on d22's the same. As in, plastic?

Mine are the black plastic now but I'm looking at painting, haven't seen a painted one close up for a while, and I don't know if they're sanded smooth/ a different type of flare all together, or what.

Can somebody please advise. Wouldn't mind taking mine off, sanding back to smooth, painting and then refitting.

Thanks

Mine are plastic - 2003 d22.

I took one of mine off just to have a look and broke two of the clips. The clips are moulded into the flare, so be gentle, unlike I was.

Maybe you could remove the strip of rubber looking stuff between the guard and the body, tape up the body and cover everything up and paint it that way, that's how I'm probs gonna do mine. What colour are you gonna do? My body is black, I was thinking of going a crazy orange or red or something stupid like that. Haha. Then I would have a one of a kind colour code. Lol

Black with silver looks pretty awesome I thought!

I've got a white body with just plain black plastic flares. But I was thinking about matching. As I'm looking at getting a tub rear that will be coming with white flares already.

So do yours have a smooth finish, or are they dimply like the unfinished plastic stuff is?

Speak to a paint shop, But i,d say a plastic primer then a high fill primer/filler then paint, With a sanding thrown in

The painted ones aren't dead smooth, if you look closely you can see a slight texture.
If your painting plastic all you have to do is prepare with a plastic spray undercoat and then paint as normal.

Maybe paint your new tub flares black? The new flat plastic would be easier to work with and paint on than the rough DX black flares. Then keep your black paint, so when you have scratches in them from 4wding you can give em a touch up in the exact colour.
