This one I just took from inside the car with all 4 windows open. I have another one my mate took on the weekend driving on the beach and its loading the car up and whistling like all hell but I gotta get him to send it to me

That sounds really good!! I definitely need to get a straight through exhaust.
does the cat need to go back on in emissions controls?

I got the 3 inch full turbo back system done to mine, but a resonator was chucked in apparently... does the resonator muffle noise at all??

yes a resonator (or hotdog) will do just that, resonate the noise,

do you find it "drones" very much without a muffler?

dont supose you have any clips of it driving under load?

nah it doesn't at all, but I wanted it louder! Like listening to other ones on youtube they sound so much louder and meatier than mine. it's bullshit! I want loudness haha! and no I don't have any as yet but will try to get one :)

you guys running a boost gauge when your changing the exhaust? do you get much of a boost increase due to less restriction

Mine is a taipan 3" one Vortex muffler (doesn't do much for muffling, apparently designed to speed up exhaust gas) and one cat and sounds good to me. I'll get a video tomorrow and see how it goes.

Weird though a free flowing exhaust would increase it but good to know i think im gonna wack up a 3" straight through off the original dump. Mainly for sound more so than powa. Should cost bugger all if i diy it. Can always change the dump later aswell i guess

You shouldn't get any more boost, as mentioned earlier it may come on sooner. The reason patrols and d40s may have boost increases is to do with the type of turbo they use. The crd ones don't seem to be too bad apparently but the zd30 di patrols had bad over boost issues with aftermarket exhausts.

This is because they use vnt (variable nozzle turbocharger) turbos, but the d22s still use the traditional style with an internal waste gate. The vnt on the other hand adjusts vanes to control boost. Because of the back pressure loss with a more free flowing exhaust the the turbo can spool quicker than the ecu can detect causing over boosting. That's why the zd30 did patrol guys fit a needle valve when they disconnect the boost control solenoid. So they can control the spool rate and prevent over boosting.

So in saying all that d22s shouldn't suffer over boost issues because the ecu isn't controlling the Max boost pressure, it is controlled mechanically by the waste gate actuator. That's not to say you won't suffer over boost issues, its just not as common, especially considering these motors don't run a lot of boost

dont just wack a 3in exhaust on the stock dump.
you really need to do the dump aswell to get the benefits. the stock dump isnt too good.
this should allow the turbo to spool up better.

dont bother with a main muffler if you want some sound.
maybe a resonator to take the edge off but if you add a main muffler it will sound pretty close to stock.

with an open dump pipe and 3in exhaust you will hear the turbo spool up quite nicely.

if u can diy, shouldnt cost too much and you could leave out things like cat and mufflers and add them in later if you decide you'd prefer it that way.
the dump will be the hardest bit, you could buy a dump from redback or the like and then diy the rest of the system to make it easier.

any loss, not sure. would be fairly minimal i would expect.
may slightly muffle some of the exhuast sound and provide some slight restriction, but shouldnt be too bad, should be a fairly high flowing cat.
but im not an exhaust expert, so someone may be able to give you a better idea, although i do find that people seem to have differing opions on this.

it would definately make it easier to diy.
i was thinking of doing the exact same thing til i found my xforce system for so cheap, decided for the price it wasnt worth buying the extra material and spending the time making it.

yea i cant see it loosing to much if any but i dont know anything about exhausts,i like how much easier it would make it to diy though.
the xforce is a great price, might give them a call see if they can take the muffler out.
:cheers!:

Its mainly because the car is only a few months old and id rather be able to bolt the original exhaust back on if something warranty related pops up. We all know how good nissan are with warranty so i dont wanna give them anymore excuses

can always bolt the dump, cat and the rest back in. will just take a bit longer. so in worst case you can still do it.
you'd be hoping you dont need to do that anyway.

getting a 2.5 inch done today
can anyone tell me difference apart from the size from a 3" to 2.5"

hope i havent made wrong decision just doing 2.5 cause thats what i was recommended

Biggers better :D nah dont know mate i thought i read that anything bigger than 2 3/4" makes no difference on a nav but i could be wrong. If you have told them what you want to achieve and they have recommended that well if it doesnt do what you set out to do ask them change it to do what you set out to do
