i see that alot people here have 2" lifts for d40...does any1 have before and after photos?? doesnt matter what brands...iv looked at the gallerys and searched forum with no luck...

Hey Guys, great thread, exactly what i was looking for

Navarian, What size tyres have you got on your rig. It' looks mad..
 
265/75/16 Maxxis Bighorns.It looks great in those pics but not so pretty right now,it's in the panel beaters in peices getting repaired after a truck backed into it.
Those pics near bring a tear to my eye.
 
Gutted to hear that the cars in hospital getting sorted out mate, that would be tragic, especially not being any of your fault.

So, how's the tyre size with that 2" lift, do they scrape have any adverse scrubbing effects and can i ask what / who did your lift for ya.

What about when you're in the bush, do you notice the extra clearance etc, I'm super keen to get exactly what you've got, 2"lift and those size of tyres, i use mine mainly for highway / town and beach stuff with some dirt thrown in occaisonally. I really notice the lack of clearance on the beach though so i'm keen to step it up a notch. The amount of times that i rub underneath along ruts etc on the beach makes me weary of getting too gun ho in the dirt, especially with those piss weak steps. I'm just waiting for mine to be ripped off

Will try and dig out some pics of mine, all the same basically though.
I bent my right hand step on fraser island, want something better now. You really notice the lift when its done, they look so much better. I haven't had any scrubbing with mine & i'm running 265/75 16's too
 
Cheers for the replies, yeah i'd love to see some of your photo's too, but whatever you do, don't show me any beer, i'm at work and it's dry, so haven't had any for 4 weeks now and i'm hanging....

What brand is your suspension also?
 
I never had tyre scrubbing even with the stock suspesion.i definately noticed the difference in the bush with the lift and bigger tyres,i took it for a test drive on tracks i had been on before and had scraped on and i was happy with the results.
I have an Iron man lift,alot of people say Iron man are crap but i only have the stock suspension to compare it with and it's definately alot better than stock.
When i had the lift fitted i asked the guys if i would need extended brake lines and they said no but i have had each wheel fully flexed and off the ground and i can tell you that you definately need them on the back,the front was ok.
Imo if you want to start modding your D40,bash plates should go on first,there are other threads on those.

lift looks heaps better nav.

bit disappointed about the d40 chssis being really low...it like starts high at front then goes down under body (where height is most important) then goes back up...wot tha..i just used the chassis as sleds...meh

did u fit the kit urself?
 
Hi there,

No before pics. After pic is in my garage. Rear ARB bar fitted since then. I can understand your concerns about the rear and side factory steps/bars. They are flimsy and prone to damage in my opinion - seen too many people tear big holes in their sills from factory side steps being dislodged in the scrub.

The lift kit went on very early in the vehicles life, as did 265/75 Mickey's. The increase underneath is enough to make most of my hunting tracks comfortable. The thing to remember is that long wheelbase vehicles like the Nav have their own unique challenges and driving technique requirements. Different paradigm to "shorties" for instance.
 
Bloody oath it would,cost me around $3400.00 to get it up like that,but they are a second set of rims with that rubber on.Stockies are in the shed.
The price of the rubber has gone up since i bought those.
And i didn't fit the suspesion lift myself so a few bucks could be saved there,but i hate working on cars.

That looks very impressive at that height on that rubber, how do those tyres handle on the road?
I also notice you have kept the standard front end on your Nav, do you have a problem with it scrapping when you take it off road? Ive just purchased a Titanium and that's my biggest worry, although mine is standard height atm.
I'm in the market for a bull bar, but if you dont have any problems with the front end scrapping i might just go the factory Nissan Nudge bar with some spotties,
What do you think?
 
Those tyres handle ok on the road,but if i left them on all the time i reckon they would wear fairly quick.I sometimes rack up 800km's in a week.They are on a second set of rims.
I've never had the standard front scrape before or after lift,but i don't drive it very hard off road.
If i was going to buy a bar for it i would buy a steel winch bar,even if i didn't intend to fit a winch at that time.
If i wanted to fit a winch at a later date i wouldn't have to change bars.

very true. go a steel bar with optional whinch...cause once u taste the offroad virus mate u would want the works...and since uv got the titanium edition..sounds like uv got some $ to spend.

Don't let the fact Ive got a Titanium fool you into thinking money is no problem when it comes to fitting accessories to my vehicle, i wish it was the case, but I'm sure just like most on this forum its all about priorities and with a mortgage and other bills coming in its a bit tough to fork out $2200 for a ARB deluxe winch bar right atm.

90% of my driving will be on road atm, and the reason i opted for the Nav is because ill be doing a stack of k's towing a 2 and a half tonne boat all around Victoria,

Before i got my Nav, 4x4ing was the last thing on my mind but one trip up the Murry River and a bit of hill climbing and i must agree nismo I'm hooked:big_smile:
