2013 Spanish D40 Trip meter resets

Hi all
I have a 2013 Spanish D40 that the trip meter resets overnight on. Battery is good. Just annoy when I am trying to watch K's as I have a long range tank and the gauge is BS. Has anyone had this happen and found a cure? Car is "new" to me.

The trip meter value is stored in the instrument cluster, not the ECU. It's possible that the "old" problem of the stereo grounding is still alive and well in your car.

Try this: get a good piece of black wire (say, "20A" cable) and connect this from one of the dash mounting bolts to the side of the stereo. It sounds odd, but it's often fixed errant instrument panel issues.

Having read "Kvs0's" issue above, I have something similar, but different? I have a 2014 Navara ST-X 550, I purchased second-hand in 2017. About two years ago (February 2020) I replaced the original battery, having read the car's manual and thought I may have lost the auto-up on the driver's side window and maybe a few settings in the dash readout, all of which are easily rectified. That didn't happen. What did occur was that my trip meter now resets to zero every time you stop the engine, the outside temp indicator flashes for around 2 kms then locks in. The analog instrument cluster needles quiver on zero for about 10 seconds before moving to show revs and speed. The engine "spanner" symbol came on when the service following the battery change was due, but my mechanic now cannot turn it off, which he could do prior to the battery change. My mechanic's on-site auto electrician cannot fix the instrument display issue. There is one place in Sydney that say they can help (for $600, plus any parts that may be necessary, plus if they take the dash apart, I am without the car for three to five days and they're booked out a month in advance). I haven't had this done yet, partly due to various Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 and my car is in use almost every day. Anyone had this happen, know what is actually going on and hopefully know what the "fix" is?

Try something silly - get a fresh piece of eletrical wire, connect one end to one of the large bolts that hold the dash in place underneath, and connect the other end to the stereo.

In older model cars, the stereo and instrument cluster shared an earth, and when dicky things started happening with the instruments (or the stereo), this was the fix.

Thanks for that advice. I'll get back to you and let you know how that went. It may take a while. It's forecast to rain the next few days (again!) and my car is out in the open.

I've had all my dash trip, due and economy reset a few times. Started after a ctek and solar was installed. I'll try the earth to the radio

We have seen where a dodgy battery can cause weird resetting issues, but in this case the battery is said to be ok.

Check the battery connections.
What Nissan did once to a friend was removed the battery cable replaced the battery then did up the battery clamp. What they did not notice was that the bolt has two nuts. They just tightened the outside nut tightly but the other nut did not allow the clamp to tighten around the battery pole. The clamp was loose and the stx550 had all kinds of resetting problems that all came good a few weeks later when the battery pole was correctly clamped.

Hi, me again. some information for "Old Tony". My mechanic came over and read this thread. As he didn't have any trim tools to remove the radio, he then pulled the radio fuse, but this didn't fix the dash issue. He said that means the radio earth is probably not the issue as it was now disconnected from the dash readout. He also checked the battery and that is fine. As JLA mentioned above, he did find a loose-ish 10mm nut by the battery terminal, but tightening this didn't improve anything on the dash readout. He said it was probably the BCM (B???? Control Module) as this had happened to another car he knows about. He posited that there may have been an energy spike when connecting the new battery? Anyway, back to the drawing board and for me to get in contact with "Attspeed" Auto Instrument Repairer (in Sydney Australia).

The Navara doesn't store the trip meter information in the BCM, it's stored in the instrument cluster. Since the fuse is in the positive line for the radio, and the problem is in the earth line, popping the fuse shouldn't change anything.

Still, it is possible that it's a loose connection on the instrument cluster or a damaged wiring loom or even that the instrument cluster itself is faulty - but that's rare.

Attspeed, an instrument specialist in St Mary's NSW, checked out the instrument cluster and found it to be faulty. Ordered specified parts, but found they didn't fit the V6 cluster as they were different to the 4 cyl Navara diesel cluster. Nissan dealers had no spares for the V6 Navara instrument cluster. Eventually replaced the cluster completely with a 2nd-hand one. That wasn't cheap and there was only one available that had to be couriered up from Melbourne . At least it sort of works now. Have to press the odometer switch every time I turn the car on to see the mileage display. Still haven't been able to remove the "spanner" flashing from the previous service. I'll put up with it until the car market sorts itself out after the current shortage of cars & parts, then flog it off. I intend travelling a bit around OZ next year and if this vehicle breaks down in, say, the Northern Territory, I may not be able to have it fixed as no parts will be available. It'll then be a $30K plus write-off.

Hi all, finally got back to the problem, tried the wire and it still dropped off reting the clock and trip meter, took the car to Nissan and they said the "transit" fuse was not fitted correctly. Long story short, it hasn't happened again and I am still looking to find this elusive fuse called transit.
