Wooshing noise when accelerating

When I put my foot on the accelerator it makes a whooshing noise when I put my foot down then goes away...didn't know if it was the air or wind passing through the roof bars or over the sunroof or whether its coming from the clutch...any ideas...?

lol... can you actually tell where the noise is coming from?

Does it lose power and not feel as quick as it did?

Is the sound the same with the windows up or down?

It doesn't lose power just makes the noise when I put my foot down

get someone to stand outside and listen to where it's coming from. It might be something simple. You need to really nail down where it's coming from

clutch on fan not operating properly ?? air intake to throttle body disconnected ??

There's quite a wide range of things it could be. Is your air filter mounted properly (or even there?). Is there a leak in your intercooler/charge air hosing? Is there a leak in your CAT or one of the gaskets in the exhaust? Is the radiator fan completely intact (no cracked blades) or is it rubbing against the back of the radiator when you accelerate hard? Is the alternator pulley slipping on its shaft? Has someone put the wrong coolant in the radiator and it's thickened up and causing the water pump to make noise? Is the rear diff input shaft bearing seal leaking, perhaps spinning under power?

As you can see, there's a LOT of things that could do it.

You can look at the air intake path and the exhaust - when the engine's cold - look for black stuff coming OUT of these.

Mine did this - Ended up being the intercooler ruptured - side tanks are only pressed on.
Look for oil seepage at the lower join between the fins and side tank on the hot side

I'd be looking at some kind of Charge Air (boost) leak. You don't need much of leak for a decent sort of noise on throttle progression while still maintaining reasonable performance. Your got remember it's a fair volume of air at up to 20 PSI.

Get someone to rev it hard and suddenly while you listen for leaks. Turn everything on to get some kind of load, like air cond and everything electrical. Shouldn't take much to work out where it's coming from.

Mine did that and it got slowly worse...turned out to be a hole burned through the cat converter. It was a good excuse to have the 3 inch system fitted!.
