Yota being a real workhorse that has withstood the test of time is completely right but the price tag like just about everything Toyota just isn't justified.

That is something that is becoming more apparent as time goes on. They had a good name BUT price is changing a lot of peoples minds, In the area i live and work in more people are going away from toyota,s, And more holden,s and fords are turning up and nissan,s .

Apart from mining companies who get better pricing than most I still see a lot of farmers going for Yota's partly because of the name and their experiences with the name but also because most of them buy what their accountants tell them too. It's not often a case of buy a new car because you need it it's buy because the previous one is high in ks and the business can justify another new car to depreciate.

The Playdo on the farm is probably about 5 months off being replaced and I know the guy who drives it as his daily work car wont think twice about walking into the local Yota bloke and just saying replace that with the new model and add these extras. He wont even look at the price tag. Yota have had that name and reputation for a long time and it will be hard for any company to ever beat.

^ Nissan could probably get that name to, all the have to do is stop denying the fact about common faults and spend more money on development

They could save themselves a shitload of money by keeping things simple.

D40's spring to mind.

All the differences between the Thai and Spain built D40's is rediculous.

and GW's

.

You're right Dave Nissan have taken a hammering because they wont admit certain problems, however I still think they'd be hard pressed to match Yota no matter how they fix their PR department.

I'm seeing a lot more GW's too Krankin. Over here in WA, the place where everything gets imported first because of lax safety rules GW's are all over the place. I reckon between the V and X series GW's I saw atleast 15 of them crossing the Nullarbor too. I'm not a fan, although the new front end looks heaps better than the old one but they are still selling vehicles and they aren't all to tradies wanting a cheap ride.

even if I had the lazy cash or won tatts I wouldnt look at a yota...
My pick would be a Patrol.

If I was in the market for a new car I wouldn't let brand bias get in the way of looking at a Yota, I may not buy it once I've looked at things but with the way new developments come through so quickly I'd rather look at them all and make a choice than ignore a brand that might be worth having.

Na...
I always wanted a single cab with steel tray patrol,
but had to get a dual cab ute for the extra people carrying.

I don't think I've ever go a Hilux over the Nav but I much prefer driving the Playdo to any other 4wd wagon...it might have something to do with the fact that if its daily driver doesn't care about the dents then I don't either but inside the Playdo is still nice and I do prefer it to the Trol I looked at a few months back. Although it may not be a fair comparison given the price difference.

My brother has a Prado, driven it a few times.

It is a nice 4wd to drive.

However, I did find it stupid that Toyota put a auto down button on the passenger door and not the drivers side.

Oh I'll have to check our Playdo for that I don't think I've noticed the passenger door window button.

DAC got me the first time I drove it down a muddy paddock. Different cars obviously have different forms of such things but Yota's DAC handled the steep muddy slope quite well.

Our Playdo goes better than it did from the factory because it's lighter, it's missing both rear bumper reflectors now and both corners have a ding in them.

It's a 2009, last of the 120's I believe because the new model came out several months after this one was picked up. It's got the D4D in it which does go alright, it knows it has 3 tonne on the back when we put the cattle trailer but like my Nav it can handle it.

Raced a few D4D's. Wont be doing that again until the ZD is chipped.

They hook those D4D's.

Anyways, winch time.

Was sitting in the car park this arvo watching a dvd and waiting for the missus to come back when I saw 4 cool as you like young guys (you know the sort hats on backwards, pant's hanging around their knees, sunnies on backwards all looking like they come from a sleep over at nanna's place) rock up to one of these.

Three of them stand in really cool poses at the back of the car while the really cool one takes a photo on his mobile, then I'm thinking they will all pile into this little car and rush off with their doof doof music blaring but no first they had important matters to attended to. The driver opens the boot and each guy grabs one of those cheap Kmart wheel caps and puts it back on the wheel closest to them. Then the driver pulls the retracted aerial back up so they can get some toooones, they all pile in, I can nearly hear the suspension groan, all the windows get wound down, hands holding smokes come out the window, the toooones start, the engine starts with a great roar and the driver reverses out then tries to make this poor little buzz box peel off some rubber.

Man I love Perthies they are so comical, made shopping such a pleasure

Raced a D4D hilux down slip road at supacenta in sydney, at the end of filter I was at 130km/h, lux was way back prob fishing around for 3rd gear!
My 550 also drops my mates hilux v6 petrol for dead which I was happy with

I re-read the article and didn't see any sort of advertising for anything other than the sand mob. It mentioned the other guy was a plumber but it only lists your name.

That's good of them, i took $24grands worth of test gear with me and gave him thermal readouts of the suspension & brakes to see which car was working hardest.
Ah well never mind.

I don't think that there is a toyota conspiracy, they just work and have done so for a long time, if they weren't as shitty inside i'd have bought a hilux
