I have just fitted a Provent 200 to my D22 YD25. had it on about a week and thought I would check the filter out of curiosity. Bone dry. So run the motor and nothing coming out of the PCV in the rocker cover. The valve looks like a non replaceable as it look integrated with the rocker cover. Question is it and if so can it be cleaned? I took out the oil filler cap and there is blow coming from the motor like any other engine, not a lot but. it doesn't blow smoke or use any oil so the motor seems fine atm. But the PCV worries me. it is due for a oil change in 1K so I will put through some engine flush ( Liquid Molly) but at the same time I am wondering if I need to clean the PCV out. I had a look in the Service manul but it doesn't tell you a lot.

Thanks

John

When the engine is running and I take off the lid to the catch can, there should be fumes coming through the hose from the PCV to the catch can. I am wondering if this is normal for the YD25 or is the PCV blocked not working. They look like they are integrated into the rocker cover and cannot be removed but I may be wrong. Can they be cleaned by spraying a solvent into the PCV outlet? I have had the can on for about a week now and the filter medium is bone dry and clean. Not normal to me..

I'd expect to see some gas moving out of that hose. Try taking the hose off the PCV and see if anything comes out of there. If not, there's a chance it's blocked.

It must be escaping somewhere. Crankcase pressure rises due to blowby and heat and if you block the PCV that pressure will find somewhere else to release (no doubt breaking something in the process if it were on my car).

I don't know if an inspection camera would be worth sticking in there, or even a pipe cleaner, I've never tried - but the gas must be coming out somewhere on your motor!

Whatever you put in there has to be safe for your sump. Carby cleaner would be very unsafe for the engine, I would think. I'd try a physical mechanism like a pipe cleaner first, and inspect the cleaner to see if it's hit some solid gunk. I don't know if the PCV itself can be removed from the camshaft cover without removing the camshaft cover.

Hi Mr. Jonh
Good morning
I would appreciate a lot if you can help me. I have seen your post about your oil catch can filter which was dry and clean after one week of install it. I'm the owner of a Nissan Frontier Diesel 2020 engine YD25, pretty similar to yours, and of course I'm considering to install a oil catch can. I have found manual of YD25 motor on internet if you need. Reading lots of information on internet I could find there is no PCV valve on camshaft cover, because it is supposed that cover has internal configuration with baffles and something else that lets to have "only clear air+non burned fuel" coming out from that nozzle.
The reason for me to navigate in this brave sea is since several months ago I saw that the hose between the turbo and intercooler (high pressure side of turbo) is stained by oil. I bring my car to an specialized guy, but he told me that PCV valve maybe is deffective and ask me to purchase for replace it. So as it is never good to trust in everyone. I found the is no existence of that PCV valve for this engine.
I would like to know your later experience using the oil catch can, and if the liqui moly flush procedure was not a problem.
Maybe is good for you to know that in my car I installed a WATER WATCH separator for diesel system ( It is australian made). Good results. It had helped to to avoid send near to 30 ml of water + impurities to combustion chamber. https://www.waterindiesel.com.au/?srsltid=AfmBOooU-roBZpIKbPHvn9tOrVFIkx4wmPDK4cye0e5Asxk6QevEA6kq

Hiya and yes the YD25 does not have a PCV fitted just a baffled rocker cover. I ended up replacing the engine in mine put on a new Rocker cover so that would have been clean from then. As far as the Liquid Moly, I use it every engine oil change. Diesels are a dirty engine at the best of times and Trying to keep the soot and sludge down inside is a must.

The catch can I swapped the inlet/outlets around as it did not seem the configuration was correct. The outlet from the Rocker cover goes into the lower inlet in the can and the outlet comes out of the top and down to the turbo inlet. It seems to me that it is running a lot cleaner, as it is drawing air from above the inlet for the engine gasses and oil mist. I haven't fitted a water separator and I don't think we need one here as our fuels are lot cleaner that many other countries. The fuel filter has a sensor in it anyway to warn if water gets into the filter so it can be drained.

Hi Mr. John
Thanks for your reply.
Could you tell me please what is your experience with oil catch can? I mean, does it really retain it of blow-by? Could you give me more information of catch can model that you installed? Here in Ecuador you can not find devices of that quality. Could you share pictures of your installation? Please
What was the camshaft cover Part Number that you installed?
About the water separator, is really nice to hear that you have better fuel. Here is really bad and yes, my truck has a factory water trap (UFI filters), maybe the sensor is not working good despite of electronic scan has beed carried out in periodic maintenance. Some days after I fueling the truck used to show an inestable ralenti when warmed up. So, the last time that it happened was when the alarm of this cyclonic separator buzzes, but the UFI filter cabin led never showed anything. This device is really good

I have the Provent 200 installed. Yeah they are OK. It does stop a lot of the oil being passed into the Intercooler. The Rocker cover I purchased off Ebay. It done the job but I had to replace the fuel line seals as the ones with the cover were crap and they leaked after a few months. Other than that it was good. I will upload a pic so you can see the install of the Catch Can
