I've recently bought an 03 D22, I dont know a whole lot about 4wd's and how it all goes together so trying to learn as much as I can.
One of my front hubs seems to be making a quite loud clunking noise in certain situations, it first came up after taking the car out of 4wd and unlocking the hubs. I coasted down a steep driveway in 4L (Me and a few other people working up the driveway had been backing up in 4L) and I stopped at the bottom, took it out of 4wd back into 2wd and then unlocked the hubs, and as I went to drive away there was this very loud clanking sound. Relocking, moving the car a bit and unlocking seemed to solve it that day.
Today I was out doing a bit of driving around on some local trails and had the hubs locked in to save having to get out when I wanted 4wd. I came to some mud, went to 4H, no problems. Then we went to climb a steep part of the track and I tried to use 4wd and the sound started to creep in again. Wouldn't go away after coming out of 4wd and unlocking hubs, so re locked them and drove the rest of the track in 2wd.
Sorry for been overly wordy, but I haven't really come across this problem else where yet, I thought my best bet would be to ask. Dose anyone here know what this sound is and if I'm right in thinking it's a hub and would you guys know how I should go about fixing such issue.
