Hello,

I'm just in the process of trying to decide whether or not to extend my warranty and were wondering what other peoples thoughts on this were, my stx550 has just ticked over to 46 thousand and have been unofficially quoted $2000 for a further 3 years but having read the PDS booklet for the extended warranty i'm unsure as to the actual warranty extension period this quote was based on, it was more a passing comment rather than me actually sitting down and asking for an accurate price.

Have any of you purchased extended warranties for your vehicles? if so how much, how long did you extend for and what price did you pay.

Also does anybody know of any major problems that are starting to occur with age on the 550's that i should be concerned about if i choose not to extend it.

It seems the prices vary from vehicle to vehicle and depends on K's travelled and modifications to the vehicle amongst other things.

Many thanks for your thoughts.

I extended mine but got sick of paying the ridiculous prices for the Nissan services - so I just wrote it off and went somewhere else. I get a better deal from the local 4x4 specialists, they appear more more thorough as they are all 4x4 nuts and have a decent workshop - and they are about half price.

I am not convinced the Nissan staff are as good.... so I would never do it again.

you don,t have to stick with Nissan for any service works, there are now heaps of good mechanics doing Log Book Servicing which is approved by Nissan . sorry back to original question asked.

Lol, we were offered "the extended warranty" and a quick read showed how crap it was. You were really giving them your money upfront to be used for some of the parts and service at future prices. It didn't actually warrant anything.

Unfortunately, to keep the extended warranty (as against the original warranty), you do have go to a Nissan dealer for all of your servicing.

I never got the whole extended warrenty thing. You have all the legal rights and coverage it would give you anyway so why pay thousands of hard earned dollars for it? Also they are almost never worth the paper they are printed on. They are just a way for the dealer to max out their profits and get you tied to them. I wouldnt touch it myself. Just my 2c

I always get extended coverage on appliances which is worth it when your $3000 TV needs the panel replaced or a $1000 "bulletproof" Bosch washing machine needs the motor, drive belt and door switch replaced just outside of the normal warranty period.

But if there was extra Ts and Cs where you would have to pay through the arse I wouldn't bother.

So if you have to have your car serviced at Nissan and pay through the arse for the privilege then I'd save the money. The money you spend on the extended warranty and the exorbitant prices at Nissan would probably balance out on service and repairs at your local trustworthy mechanic.

That's the way I'd go anyway
