Hi guys, I have just purchased a brand new D40 series 6 Deisel dual-cab with the 6 speed. I have optioned it with the Queenslander pack; Alloy Bull-bar, tow-bar, Tub-liner, Soft Tornie and mats.
I don't pick it up until Tuesday arvo, but what I have done in the last few days is read some Horror stories about the Navara's!
I have Never owned a Nissan b4 and I don't get into all the brand v's brand B.S! What does concern me though b4 I pick it up is all of the reviews from disgruntled owners out there claiming its a lemon! Now Iam thinking have I done the right thing!? I have read Timing chains are terrible, clutches are pathetic (Dual mass?) engines are plagued with fueling issues and the gearboxes are fragile. I need to know all of this b4 I hand over the papers on Tuesday but in the meantime I feel very crook in the guts with concern...PLEASE HELP. Paul.:confused3::confused3:

Firstly welcome to the forums

Secondly stop reading stories on the internet

Thirdly enjoy the ute when it arrives.

Sure there is stories on the net about problems with Navara's but it happens to every make and model. Internet forums have not only spawned a good resource for help and assistance they have spawned a massive area for whingers and moaners to make a claim and not have to substantiate it.

There has been some people here with timing chain issues but they are a very small number compared to those owning the YD25's.

Clutches are not great but they have been more of an issue to those towing larger loads and most people doing that would suggest doing it in an auto.

Fueling issues are more commonly down to the right foot although some owners have had genuine injector issues.

Unsure how many gearbox issues have been reported on here but again I'm sure it's not wide spread.

Thanks Krafty, I'm hopeing that the issues they had in the not too distant past have been cleared up with the 'new' 2012 model. Maybe this is why they have gone from being made in Thailand back to Spain?? Here's hoping!

I totally agree with Krafty,
Mate i have now done 80'000km in mine and i give it a hard time all the time and i have not had an issue with any of those things you mentioned.

As for the clutch im pretty sure that the new D40 are one of the ONLY makes NOT to be running the DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL anymore, so those issues that all makes have that do run them should be a thing of the past.

I can tell you stories about my mates and relos with late model Hilux's and Tritons that would turn you off them too, so like Krafty said just enjoy the NEW RIDE when she arrives.

Any car can have problems but that's not to say every car will have problems. Unfortunately problems do occur and that's why they have warranties, most people seem happy with the 2012 (most people on here seem happy with all models).

There is plenty of threads here about the good and the bad, sure we have a few pissed off posters not getting what they think was a fair deal or having issues either self imposed or Nissan imposed but at the end of the day there is also many answers to common issues and even more answers to general questions.

The major difference on this forum to most of the others is that you can be fairly assured that you are talking to owners of Navaras and not pissed off Toyota owners who bad mouth Navaras because they wished they'd bought one.

Hey Mate, I haven't had my D40 for long and I've read the same horror stories, though i've read a lot of happy stories too including ones where D40 out do the hilux off road, I know some of this comes down to driver and Mods but hey, D40s out did Hiluxs.

I can tell you a lot of bad things with the new Hiluxs which we've experienced through work so when it comes to it, I will stick with my D40 any day. I absolutely love my D40, I had the same feelings as you after I had ordered mine then read horror stories though now that I have it, I have no regrets at all and haven't looked back for a second.

You will love it i'm sure and just look around this forum for many more happy D40 owners...

Pffft
No jealousy here
Ide have a 22 over a 40 anyday:ridinghorse:

Suits my needs perfectly
2 sticks and manual hubs
The end

Hahah Sparra You need TWO sticks hahaha i think you might keep that to your self in future....... lol

personally im happy with my stick and my knob, I dont want anything to do with any more

Good luck and enjoy your ride
They are a good Ute
And have the potential to be just as good as the 22 (with some mods)
Ime off to play with my 2 sticks
Cheers

Welcome to the forum.

Krafty & the others are right.

It's very, very important to remember - and this works for everywhere, whether it's internet, a cafe, your workplace, a library - people will more often talk about what irks them about an object than what pleases them.

I'd read somewhere that 20% of people who are content with an item will say something, and over 90% of people who are annoyed will say something. If there are 30 or 40 "bad" Navara utes around, out of the hundreds sold each month, that actually says something rather comforting.

I've had mine since Oct 2009 and we've done about 95,000km in it, a lot of that towing. It handles off-road not too badly and I've had her in the river up over the bonnet - she didn't miss a beat.

By the way, many modern utes use the dual mass flywheel and Nissan are dumping it because it's so troublesome - I'm just not sure which model will be the first without it - it could be yours!

If you go and research how many people are happy with their Triton, or their Colorado, you'll probably find similar stories to what you see in the Navara world. Every manufacturer has its problems, some dealers don't help the issue and some do - the mixed bag is right across the board.

I hope yours isn't too bad. Don't drive it like a petrol car though - and remember the turbo needs to cool before shutting down the engine (read the Turbocharger FAQ).

Most of all, have fun!
