I'm not sure what the load rating is on the steel we used, I'd have to check my old man's books and it would depend how thick the walls are but there is no reason why such an idea wouldn't work. It might well be worth using a small out of sight piece of rubber (like a cut up bike tube or something) to go between the steel and your canvas but that wont take much to figure out.

Just got a call from a mate of a mate and went and saw him. He reckons no worries he can do it. For around $200.00

This guy reckons no problem. If he can't thread it, I can do it if he can't. He is going to notch them too. Hopefully works out well. I'll drop it to him Thursday and leave it with him. Can wait
