door handle failure

I know this is an old problem, but how do i remove the rear outer door handle so that i can take out the inner bracket that holds the operating cable, which is the cause of my problem, i have taken out the screw behind the grommet the, handle is loose but wont slide forward enough to pull out .the vehicle is a 2005 Nissan Navara D 40
