In truth, while there are a LOT of good Navaras out there - mine has no trouble at all, at 125,000km (serviced every 10,000km by the Nissan dealer where the vehicle was purchased) - but there are always going to be some less-than-stellar vehicles released - I think they call them Monday builds (or Friday builds, depends on how you look at the weekend).
And while I could go on about how it's a great shame that you never managed to enjoy the car and get a feel about how good they CAN be, the sour taste that such failures brings does taint any experience and even taking a really good truck out for a spin is still going to be coloured by what's happened to yours, and sometimes moving on is the only thing you can do.
It's also quite true that Nissan did shoot themselves in the foot over this one, and Paul from yd25.com.au knows all too well that the single row timing chain is too weak for the work being asked of it. In my opinion, I would have designed it with hy-vo chain & gears, rather than "bicycle link" - or gone full gearing all the way up from the crank, past the pump & balance shaft to the camshafts.
Coulda woulda shoulda though - they didn't, we can't change what they did nor can we change what happened to you, all we can do is hope that your next car isn't as troublesome and wish you well.
Once your car is fixed, of course, it's likely that the new owner isn't going to have any trouble with it, so point someone who wants a ute in that direction - it'll be a good car once the chains are replaced and the rebuild is done (as long as it's done right, and not on a Monday!).
