I recently had my injectors replaced at 70k om my 2007 d40 :shooter:while it was on the dyno it was recomended that the timing chain tension be checked as navaras have a tendency to become loose and fly apart does anyone know the correct procedure for adjusting the timing chain or is it fully hydraulic and should it be buggered at 70k ???

Ozzie

ive always been taught to change any timeing chain at around the 80k mark.for the couple hundred that it costs its well worth the piece of mind.
my engine blew the other day because my chain snapped

The tensioners are automatic. That may be half their problem - the "auto" bit has not been very effective on some of the 2006-2009 YD25s. There are some threads on this site detailing some horror stories - the cost of replacing the chain is a little high, but the cost of repairing the damage is much higher. I'd have the tensioner checked at the very least.

That does sound a little strange but i do see your point and it does make a certain amount of sense, BUT you only change BELTS at 100k so a motor with a chain shouldn't need doing for allot longer then a belt if at all. You "should" get some sort of warning with a chain ie NOISE as apposed to the belt that will just SNAP.

BUT hearing the trouble that some YD2.5 have, you could be on to a good system

Non adjustable/ no tension check, just replace if worn ....there is no actual servicing/replacement period, but according to the sceptics, replace the whole shebang prior 100,000.

It should not be buggered by 70,000, but if given the opportunity, its worth an inspection anyway.

How much should it cost FB?? obviously way more then a couple of hundred but how much more im guessing $1500+

from what i gather its the guides/adjusters that cause all the drama.
Also i have been told that its a bit of a major op with the yd motor just getting it removed, BUT i havent done one so i really dont know?????

Tensioners. No adjusters. There is 3 and 4-5 guides

in regards to changeing intervils, different engines have different chains (some even double linked) so the life is not the same all round just because its a chain.ill always changes mine like my old man tought me between 80-100k purely because it just isnt a risk worth takeing, ask yourself what you would rather have,i know id rather have my ute on the rd and not in the shop awaiting a new engine.3-400 or 4-10+ grand, scales are a bit outweighed IMO.also it being a YD 2.5 might be a consideration
