ok people, I am a diesel mechanic, to me, the sound is the fuel purge valve dumping excess pressure back into the tank, required on common rail diesel due to the need to maintain a constant high pressure in the common rail, diesel fuel does not have the cooling properties of petrol so it slightly expands under heat(rails are aluminum and suffer heat soak) to high a pressure can lead to a cracked rail ( go look at a Mercedes Vito van) the noise is normal and I will bet it only happens on a hot day or high engine bay temps
