Hi , I just got back from a trip, and just like mxnut, my D40 also spat it's alternator pulley, resulting in a 35 km tow, and a bill for A$2054 for a new one plus fitting. pulley unscrewed, remained partly on the shaft and totally destroyed the thread on shaft. The Nissan dealer mentioned he had recently done another one, under warranty, unfortunately mine was up to me. I would bet there are a few others out there also. This is obviously a design fault, the clue being the fact that it has to have a spragg clutch integral with the pulley. OK while driving the right hand thread, but when engine decelerates the heavy rotor in the alt over runs and tries to unscrew, so if the clutch gets stiff away it goes. But $1770 for an alternator? Who else is out there?

was the alternator itself dear or the labor? fleabay got them from uk for $500 delivered

but suppose u were outa town and did not have time
