Hi Guys,

looking at doing a diff ratio drop in my 2011 D40 550 V6 Turbo Diesel, currently running 35" wheels, I have already put front and rear ARB Air lockers in.
ARB RD149 is the rear and
ARB RD181 is the front locker.

Does anyone know the standard ratio diffs for this vehicle? or does anyone know where I can purchase different ratios for this vehicle.

cheers Matt

The diff ratio in the V6 550 Navara's is 3.133:1.

The front diff housing is the same on all D40's except that the ring and pinion gears differ plus there are 2 sizes of carriers to cater for all gear ratios. (Also the diff center is a 2 pinion design on the 2.5L Navs and the V6's have a 4 pinion design). The gear ratios available are

3.133:1 V6 V9X Nav's
3.357:1 RX
3.538:1 Auto 2.5L
3.692:1 Manuals 2.5L

Since you already have an ARB locker the ratio I would consider is 3.538:1 as you don't need to change to the different ARB part no locker to fit a 3.692:1 gear set. You can fit a 3.692:1 ring and pinion but you would also need to swap your locker for an ARB locker part no. RD 180. (You currently have RD 181)

I have thought about the same thing so if some cheap diffs from an Auto 2.5 3.538:1 ratio came up I would swap the gears into my diffs. The one unknown is whether an error code would be thrown. I don't think that it will as the 7 speed auto has a output shaft speed sensor and uses this for the gear change logic.

Using a 3.538:1 ratio equates to 12.9% more reduction so instead of approx 1700rpm at 100km/hr it would be 1920rpm at 100km/hr.

See this Nissan Navara d40 specs page.

Thx for all the information, I was under the impression that the V6 V9X Navara has a bigger stronger front diff housing and drive shafts. I did contact Nissan awhile ago and they had different part No. for the different housings. Very poor info on the V9X vehicles in this country. Nissan don't want to tell anyone jack ****.

regards Matt
