You do have relatively limited options mate. Only a Unichip dealer can retune the chip..

I think there is 3 in the wider Brisbane area including the one you went to. None of the others specialise in diesels really. And personally I wouldn't take a diesel car to a shop that didn't specialise in diesel tuning....

Only other shop in Queensland I would even recommend is Diesel Central in Gracemere.
Shaun knows more about diesel tuning than any other tuner I know thats for sure.

Well m8 i can get the cab;e and tuning software to tune myself but i have no idea what i'd be doing lol

Well, technically you shouldnt be able to, as only dealers have access to them in any country outside the usa.
But if you do, your very lucky lol

It states on their site that you can get the usb cable and uni-tune software

Can I tune my car with the Unichip myself?
Short answer - Yes you can if you want to.

Long answer - If you purchase a PnP kit, it will arrive already tuned and shouldn't need any additional tuning. If you either want to tune, or you have an application that isn't supported by our PnP options, you can certainly tune the Unichip with the Uni-Tune software.

The Unichip can be tuned as many times as desired and can be tuned to work with any desired vehicle or any set of parts on those vehciles. With the Uni-Tune software, you can "tweak" the custom maps that come on a Unichip included in a Plug-n-Play kit or build maps from scratch. The Unichip is capable of controlling a lot of functionality, and with the Uni-Tune SW, you control every aspect of the Unichip.

Technical answer - The Uni-Tune software allows the user to access via a Windows based PC so that you can adjust and modify any values the Unichip is using.

Yeah I know everything they say lol.

As I explained though, Forget even trying to buy from unichip.us.

Everything will go through when you try to purchase from their web shop and you will have an email the next day saying " Terribly sorry, but you are out of our selling region"

well prob a good thing i got a mate in the us then isn't it lol

Definitely!

That is one avenue nobody will ever be able to stop lol..

If it gets brought inside the US by a citizen or whatever and sent out there is no way anyone can stop you.

The only downside is you will loose any tech support or warranty you may have otherwise had when buying it inside Aus.

Oh and that diesel vehicles in the states are near on unheard of unless its chev and ford...
95% of all the 'Diesel' plug and play kits ive seen sent over have petrol tunes on them.

mmmmmmm you just had to throw that in there didn't ya pmsl, it's just i am sick and tired of paying these outrageous prices for such easy task's, it's wrong!

I dont think the costs are outrageous really. Running a workshop does cost alot of money..

Yes what you got charged was probably excessive, but that is really the companies doing not so much to do with the product.

The flat rate fee of $550 to fit and tune works out pretty much even for the shop and the customers. Sometimes the tuner has a win and everything goes smoothly and he gets the job done in a speedy manor..

But ill tell you now having spent many years on the dyno, it goes the other way just as often.

I reckon 50% of all the cars ive tuned have had mechanical or electrical problems that needed to be sorted out before I even started tuning...

yea fine if the vehicle has issues tell e'm get it fixed and come back and then you'll tune it at a realistic price, $550 realistic price pffft! what to plug in 2 plugs, roll it onto the dyno and play with a computer for an hour, they don't even break a sweat!

They could charge half that get twice the customers and still make a hell of a killing, all they think of is ooorrrrr.... easy job lets sting them the earth cause with our outrages prices we want a quick buck, cause they won't be back when they get the bill. and we didn't break a sweat! sweet! quick $500 bucks.

Now lets do some marketing and get some more suckers in! i know how they work m8 and be buggered if i'm gonna let some lazy ******* press a few buttons, turn a few screws and then screw me over!

It's wrong i tell ya and they should be ashamed of themselves!

Well you need to tell people about it if that is how you feel. And also read your PM's lol

I think $1700 is a good price for a unichip installed with time on the dyno.

look at the other options steinbauer is like $1500 installed and not as good as a unichip, tuneit is about the same I think, roo systems wll lets not even go there, chip it used to be good but seem to be having supply issues atm.

2greedy I think you should listen to what Diesel Tuner is saying, he makes alot of valid points.

I'll sell you a Unichip I had in my D22, full harness and controller. Bought it off Northside.

Only used for a few months.

nah all good dave i just spent $1700 getting 1 fitted lol thx anyway but out of curiosity why are you selling it?

Have no use for it now. The Dmax has more then enough power for me.

The ZD30 lacked power and torque, I had it in that.

Last year I contacted Unichip.us to supply me a unichip for my VQ40 as I couldn't find any options for petrol in Aus. They where more than helpful with any questions I had and more than prepared to sell it to me. Nothing about "out of our region". The quote was like 900USD shipped. I didn't go ahead with it as I couldn't justify 300 to ship a small box. I have since found the only authorised dealer in Aus for Uprev is in my city and very keen to get his hands on my ute as am I. Hopin for about 200rwkw.
