Not sure if any of you remember but in 2009 sometime Komodo's have now been proven to actually have venom and not just the amount of bacteria that there mouths carry as first thought.

On the spider bite, my mate got bit like 4 years ago and yep the same time every year it's flares back up and he goes in for a drip for like a week. He has just had another operation on it and hopefully this will stop it for good.

Yes I have heard that it is te bacteria that they carry and not there venom.
Apparently Daddy long legs are the most poisonous spiders i the world but cause no threat to us because their fangs arn't strong enough to penetrate the skin.

When I use to do retail years ago as a young bloke a customer and her son came into to the shop.

He got bitten on the face and had a nasty mark.

He needed lots of drugs to get him good again.

There a nasty spider, from memory a spiders venom is its saliva.

Hope your ok Gus.

Not good mate, glad to hear you are on top of it now...
oh and thats the last daddy long legs I'll ever kill!

Hey Bosshog sorry to hear about the spider bite, but good to hear your recovering.

Cheers Brad

Jeezuz:shocked::shocked:

I've never seen a white tail, but was aware of what they could do. Bad luck getting bitten by one though mate, hopefully the surgery doesn't leave too much of a reminder there for you.

thats crazy! ive heard they only affect some people? weve got heaps in our house but i dont think ive been bitten, or if i did i had no reaction.

White tail siders?
The ones with he white mark on their bum?

They are one I would be getting rid off.

Yep thats them. Missus does a good job of getting rid of spiders. I hardly notice them. We have heaps at our place. We got white tails, red backs, some big ass black ones, huntsmans etc etc probably should get the house sprayed scince we got a bub due in march.

My house and surrounds are spider playgrounds but inside i see the occasional huntsman but mainly daddy long legs. After reading this thread I'm never evicting another daddy long legged spider in my life haha

The boyfriend of a girl I used to share a house with in Sydney used to keep a tarantula in a fish tank because he reckoned he never wanted a normal pet. I don't know what they do to spiders to make them less life threatening but whatever it was had been done to this spider and apparently it would no longer kill but the guy still didn't see a problem keeping such a spider in a house with a 3 month old baby and 2 dogs.

The others of us that lived there saw a problem with it and one day when he wasn't around we killed the bugger with some industrial strength bug killer, the silly prick never really did get over that but he didn't last much longer in the house than the spider and last we heard of him he was doing time for driving drunk, without a licence, and wiping out a Merc which he couldn't afford to pay for. Occasionally Karma is good.

My theory is that everyone in entitled to their own pet, but in a house with kids (especially babies) and dogs no pet shall be a once deadly variety. Vasectomies don't always work who's to say whatever they did to the spider worked. Besides the guy was a douche of the highest degree and we'd been trying to kick him out for ages but the stupid girl who live there wouldn't dump him until he pranged her sisters car.

Guess you wont be coming down here to visit me if you don't like spiders Dave, our bush is littered with the buggers, usually only huntsmans but there is heaps there none the less.

Fair enough.

I come across heaps of spiders every night, some on the windscreen at 100km/h and some on paths I walk at the huts.

Ill be right.
