The new D40s - especially the V6 diesel - have it ALL over the competition in power and economy. Getting 7-8LPHK in a DMax/Colorado/Ranger is nothing (we've had one 550 owner here report 6.5LPHK). Trying getting any of those to get 12LPHK hauling 2.5T across north Qld - a user here with a 550 has done it.

Only thing about the 550 is the coin it takes to get one. Over $60K to start with, that's without mods - and for towing

I visited nissan.com.au to check, so I wasn't looking at a dealer price - just the RRP.

$49K is pretty good - if I was hunting for a new one today, I'd jump at that.

Hey thanks guys for all your replies...interesting reading there and well I wasn't that keen on the 22 just interested in the differences really and forgot to mention the D40 as an option but that is what i'm keen on yeah.
looked at one today which already had a deposit but he hasn't heard back from the guy for 4 days so took it for a run.Nice truck I thort!
looking at another tomorrow which is a great setup too with very low k's.
Think it could be the one hopefully,will let you guys know and post a pic if I get it.

I had one guy ring and offer me 16000 and that was two weeks ago, had heaps of people look at it judging by the stats but no other calls, the price assist thing claims I have it listed at a lower price then I should for the k's to so I dunno

Well considering that is jap built and would of been like 36k new the cheap deals atm 26k driveaway is probably the reason you will still miss pulling your 2 sticks when you get the hilux lol

the gutlux has two sticks to play with mate, I got an auto though so I won't be getting as much hand-knob action as I used to... it was pretty much the only car not full of all electronic crap but still pretty safe, like whatever I bought had to have manually selecting high/low range, I saw a rodeo almost washed into the ocean cause the electronics on his 4wd selector buggered up and he was left in 2wd bogged below the high tide line with water rushing in.

Mechanical engagement of transfer and hubs is essential I feel, one of my bosses had a older Ranger/Bt and the front diff (electrics) engaged whilst on the freeway at 100 kph, after some time (he didn't know as it didn't indicate) with torque wind up the front left drive shaft let go, shattered C/V etc, it flailed under the ute for a bit and beat the shit out of some of the other gear but damn lucky it didn't fly out and kill some poor bastard.
